I know revolvers are limited to six rounds. At our local matches, this situation comes up a lot, and we haven't found a consistent answer for it yet. Maybe y'all can help....

On this particular stage, you have to engage T1-T4 w/ two shots each, do a mandatory reload, and then move to the second box where you engage the next set of targets.

Now, if you're shooting revolver, you only have the six shots. You have to reload to engage T4. After you engage T4, you still have four live rounds left.

Question: Is the reload b/t T3 & T4 considered your mandatory reload, or do you have to do another reload after you shoot T4 (& dump four live rounds) before you engage the next set of targets?

Thanks in advance....:)

Here's where clearly written course descriptions are so very important. The requirement to do the reload before moving to the next shooting position makes this question impossible to answer with the information provided. Here's why.

If T1-T4 are shot from the first position of a "field course" the designer can not dictate the mandatory reload. OTOH, if the course is a "standard exercise" you may need to do the "standing reload" to complete the first array and a "mandatory reload" prior to engaging the second array.

Shooting a revolver in IPSC really is about the reload. Imagine 4 targets on the right side of a barricade and four targets on the left side of a barricade with a mandatory reload between sides. That's one reload going from one side to the other for every divison but revolver. The wheelgunner will need to perform 3 reloads.

Mandatory Reloads

Hi all,

I just registered for this board so I apologize for my late response on this quetion.

IMO, I don't think the intermediate reload of your revolver prior to the transition to the next shooter's box can be considered the mandatory reload.

If I read your description properly, the MR is required before you engage the next set of targets.

Since I use a semi-auto in my competitions I will to speak from my perspective. Suppose in the heat of the stage, I accidentally release my mag. I will first of all be penalized for dropping a partially loaded mag on the ground, but I will also need to reload a new mag. Since the stage description requires me to complete a MR in Box B prior to the final engagement, I have to do that in order not to receive a technical penalty for failure to follow instructions.
