Question:

Could it be normal to get a 100 yard zero at 3 clicks and 300 yard zero at 12 clicks? I know that seems like a large variance, but it appears to be the case with my 18" barreled M1A scout.

I recently had a chance to shoot my M1A at a 300 yard range. I chose to mainly use irons in order to get a little better with them. 1st I double checked my 100 yard zero. As before, I got a 100 yard zero at 3 or 4 clicks up depending on the ammo.

With this 25 round group of Federal 150gr Nosler Ballistic tip, I started out at 3 clicks for the first 5 rounds then moved up to 4 clicks for the remaining 20. I also moved the windage 1 click from to left after the first 5 shot group. This was giving me about 3-4 MOA.

So then I tried moving out to 300 yards. I had read that typically the 300 yard zero is only a couple of clicks up from the 100 yard zero. Well, I wasn't even on paper until 9 clicks. Here is the trial and error, 5 shots at 9, 10, 11, and 12 clicks up w/ Hornady TAP 155gr A-MAX.

Then i threw the scope on to see how much easier that was at 300 yards, and got this group just by going 4" up from my 100 yard zero (16 clicks on the scope's elevation adjustement, I used Federal 168gr Gold Medal Match for this group).
