I am looking for some iron sights to put on a 10/22. I am familiar with the basic "notch" style sights, but have never used peep sights or any other type of iron sights. What else is out there and what do you recommend?
Google up "Tech-Sights". They have come up with an M16 type add-on rear sight and front sight combination for a much more serious and practical setup, suitable for getting people started on high power rifle shooting basics. Looks like a slick setup. If I could still use irons well I'd definitely build one up.
If Ruger was on the ball they'd offer that as a factory option or even standard.
Another option would be the combo from Williams consisting of a "Guide" model receiver sight and a "Firesight" fiber optic bead replacement front sight.
I have this on one of my 10/22s and it's a very practical set-up. The FO bead is much quicker to acquire and index in most all light conditions than the brass bead on the stock unit. It's also a tad smaller, which helps me hit a bit more precisely in most situations.
Installation is DIY and uses existing holes for the rear unit. The price from most sources is under $40.
