Is 20 acres enough to hunt dove?

Just use your head and be careful, the way you would do with any hunt. With the nearest fence being 150 yards from center, you can easily create shooting lanes that would be plenty safe for any shotgun with light dover loads.

Another thought...I used to hunt squirrels in a strip of woods next to a row of houses. I used a 410 and killed lots of squirrels, always of course shooting with the houses behind me. Never had any complaints, but finally quit because it made ME uncomfortable. I would much rather hunt where I don't have to think about it.

Texas is supposed to be a "gun state", but they sure do have some rules in place that you may not expect. When hunting there years a go, I was informed that open carry was against the law at the time. In Texas! I could not believe it and did not look it up on purpose. Check local rules. If it were in Indiana, I would have zero hesitation with regard to firing a gun on a property that size (common sense permitting, of course!).

Field loads for dove? I've been "rained on" by #8 from a hundred yards off and mostly thought it was halfway funny. Painless, anyhow.

Got hit in the upper lip a few years back from about 60 yards, falling shot. It didn't leave a mark nor even sting. I doubt it'd even hurt an unprotected eye, though I wear glasses.

Yep, as long as your shot doesn't travel across property lines you are good to go.

I grew up on 10 acres in central Oklahoma, the frontage at road was about 1/2 mile, I shot 410 and 12 gauge and .22 rifle all the time, we had neighbors on each side and they had kids my age and they also shot, neighbor to east had cattle and horses and it never bothered them.
I would say you will be plenty safe on 20 acres with 12 gauge, just don't go to your fence line and shoot at neighbors houses

We tested when the local T&S club relocated.
Carryout of 7 1/2 was somewhat greater than the calculated value, about 700 feet, as determined by sending the club president downrange with a sheet of plywood to shelter under. Fortunately that was still inside our property line.

Hey, a little common sense, okay? #8 shot in free fall doesn't hurt anything. I doubt that Bobarian is going to deliberately get all up-close-and-personal and aim at a neighbor's cow, dog or whatever.

Legality? Bandera and Harris Counties ban shooting on tracts of 10 acres or less. I know of no ban on shooting in a 20-acre tract. (The Davis Mountain Resort development has a restrictive covenant in the deeds, against any shooting.)

+1. I've had some of my best hunts on a 4 acre parcel that a buddy ownes. 8 shot is pretty much unnoticeable when falling, although if the neighbor has a metal barn or roof they may gripe a bit.

In other words, shoot up. 20 acres is plenty.

Yeah, I think that is WAY more than enough to dove hunt on. I have hunted with groups of about 6 on 10 acres. Everyone faces the same direction and has a shooting arc that they know to stay inside. Been doing it for many years and never had an accident.
