Legislature 2003
Terror bill stirs debate over status of firearms

By David Postman and Sarah Lorenzini
Seattle Times Olympia bureau

OLYMPIA — An anti-terrorism bill has spurred debate among lawmakers: Is a gun a weapon of mass destruction?
The fight could jeopardize the sweeping bill proposed by Gov. Gary Locke and Attorney General Christine Gregoire to create six new terror-related crimes with harsher penalties than allowed under current state law.

A group of House Democrats wants House Bill 1210 to specifically include firearms as weapons of mass destruction, to make it clear that a terror-related gun crime would be punishable by the stiffer penalties.

Everyone knows a 12 ga shotgun is a WoMD.

Those who control the language control the culture.
--Identify a target to be marginalized
--Create a term not yet in popular usage.
--Begin using that term with respect to your specific agenda
--Introduce your definitions to the selected term
--Plant news coverage featuring your term using your definition.
--Sponsor legislation to restrict activities based on your new definitions.
--Congratulations! You just marginalized another advocacy group.

Presto chango. You now own the term, its definition, and it usage.

Ok, let the Democrats designate firearms as WMD. You cannot differentiate between firearms used by terrorists and any other firearm. The UN/World Court can then charge every person in the US military that uses a firearm as a war criminal for using WMD in violation of international law and treaties.

Wait.. When did they start making Nuclear bullets... Talk about "stopping power"

Hey Gnull, check this out.

The liberals are trying to drag us gunowners into an unrelated debate to make it harder to pass the bill- cute tactic but I don't see it working and we need to save our capital for things that matter, or in other words set our own agenda.
