i picked up an old skb that needs to have the barrel reblued, but all i've ever dealt with are pumps. is there more to removing this barrel than simply unscrewing the mag cap? it seems to still be connected to the receiver REALLY tight. is there some pin or something that i'm missing?
thanks!!

it appears from the schematic that the barrel should just slide off like normal, but no such luck. maybe its stuck due to being so filthy inside? any suggestions or tricks of the trade on how to free it up?

Is the bolt open or closed?

It appears from reading the owners manual the bolt would have to be closed and pressed forward to install, or remove the barrel.

It may be rusted in there. Try to get some penetrating oil in between the barrel extension and the receiver. You may need to prop the gun on its side or top and put oil down inside the open receiver to try to get it into the gap between the receiver top and the barrel extension.

After letting it soak in penetrating oil for a day or two, lightly tap the top and side of the receiver and the muzzle end of the barrel with a rubber mallet. That may break the rust loose. Also, get someone to hold the butt end of the gun while you pull and twist on the barrel to get it off. Good luck.

A friend of my son's has one of these. I offered to break it down and clean it for him. What I found was that the bolt had to be slightly retracted in order to remove the barrel. I placed the butt stock on the floor, and lifted the barrel while slightly retracting the bolt. It slid right out.

Initially I had the same issue that you did. Barrel would not come out either way (bolt forward, or back), but the slightly "out of battery" position did it for me.

Good luck.

well the penetrating oil and whacking the heck out of it with the rubber mallet finally worked. the amount of rust holding that barrel on was sad. how someone could treat a gun like that escapes me! anyone have insights into removing the bolt and carrier?
thanks!!

It's been a little while, but if memory serves, I removed the trigger group, and proceeded pretty much the same as with a Remington 1100. I.e. remove the bolt handle, push the shell latch down and slide the bolt carrier out. It's been a while, I'm a little fuzzy on it.

Ok, I do remember now, I could not just pull the bolt handle out. I had to reach in with a small screwdriver, and release the spring tension holding it in. When I examined the detent cut into the bolt handle it was obvious that it was not designed to just pull out.

Hope this helps.
