Is Igman any good? Right now Natchez has 6.5x55, .243, .270, .308, 8x57, and 30-06 on sale for under $7 a box (30-06 is $6.74). Great price. Is it worth trying out or should I just spend a couple bucks more for another brand?

For range ammo, the 6.5x55 was good enough. I'm not a good enough shot to tell if it was better or worse than any other decent ammo. \

I can't remember if it's the Igman or another Euro brand that has small flashholes and is a tad bit trickier to load though. You either had to drill the flashhole larger or machine your depriming pin thinner.

I've shot some of the 8mm in a Yugo M48, seems to shoot OK but the bullets appear a little crudely made. I think I like the S&B better.

Have yet to shoot any but if this is produced with the same bullets the old YKK headstamp had, I feel the jacket is a bit softer and leaves more copper in the bore.
Not a real big deal in my book but just something I noticed.
What is the headstamp in the Igman?
I plan to pick up some Igman at the next show if I see any.

I think I like the S&B better.
$1.20-1.25 better? At one or two boxes it isn't much, but I'm thinking about picking up about 10 boxes at this price to really get acquainted with my Savage 110 (if I don't trade it). At 10 boxes the $1.20 a box adds up a bit (well a 12 back of beer or a pizza's worth anyway). I think S&B is the next cheapest (I'll have to look through the sale catalogue) and the regular price is pretty cheap too so I do want to check it out as well.

Edit:

On second look at the sale flyer it was the American Eagle that was about $1.20 more. The S&B is only $0.50 more. At that price maybe I'll pick up both to see how I like each. Maybe 5 boxes of the Igman and 5 of the S&B.

Be careful of the Yugo stuff, the FCSA tested the .50 BMG stuff and found it to be mildly corrosive (took 10 days to show). Just thought I would pass this along, don't know if it applies to the smaller caliber stuff. It might be worth having some tested or doing your own tests.

I shoot the Igman 6.5x55SE sometimes and it shoots fine.

Warning for reloaders: It's Boxer-primed, but the flash-hole is too small for Lee and RCBS de-priming pins. I expand the hole (from the front end) with a 3/32 drill before depriming and that seems to work good. It only takes a few seconds per case, and the reloaded rounds shoot fine.

Regards.

I took a practical rifle class at Frontsight and two guys used .308 hunting rifles. They shot Igman ammo throughout the course and did fine. We shot from field positions out to 200 yards with a few shots at 300 and 400. We fired about 500 rounds during the course.
I specifically asked them about their ammo because I noticed the box and had never seen it before. They were both quite happy with it. I know the guy right next to me on the line was one of them and he was certainly holding his own in the course. Based on that one second hand experience I would say it is pretty good ammo.

Prvi Partizan?

Anyone know if Igman is made by Prvi Partizan? If so it should be good stuff. It's what wa sold back int he 80s by Hansen.

Privi Partizan, Hansen, and Igman are all names under which the same ammo has been sold (headstamps usually "IJ", "IK", "PP", and others); the last I heard, the factory had been bombed out of commission, but they may have rebuilt since then.
