Is it just me, or is the new WWB value pack filthy?

A couple of days ago, I went shooting and put 50 rounds of the new ("improved accuracy") WWB value-pack through each of my Hi Powers. I came home to clean them, and they were both filthy. Absolutely filthy. It took me close to 4 hours to clean them both, so an average of 2 hours a piece. It usually takes me a leisurely 30 minutes each.

Is it just me, or is it the ammo? I mean, what else could make a gun so dirty?

It's not just you. I used a couple boxes of it 7-8 months ago. I'm not sure if it was the new and improved stuff, but it was definitely very dirty and made it a pain to clean. Had to really scrub with a brass brush on the feed ramp and locking insert to get the caked on crud off. I picked up some CCI Blazer to try out and haven't gone back to WWB since. I can literally just wipe the fouling off with a patch, so cleaning doesn't take more than 15 minutes. Haven't had any problems with it (the aluminum cased stuff) -- plus, it's cheaper. Can't beat that. :)
 
I put 200rnds of WWB Value Pack through my K9 and while dirty, it wasn't any harder to clean than any other ammo. Probably took me half an hour.

I've had both really dirty WWB and boxes that were fairly clean; I'm sure there's some variances in the powder used (whatever was cheaper at the time of manufacturer). I can also say I've experienced the same in Rem. UMC as well.

That said, the fact that it still is good range ammo and even better JHP defensive ammo at good prices and availability makes it worth it. ('Course, I like cleaning my weapons-a labor of love and relaxing too for me.)

I've shot several boxes of 9mm and 45ACP and didn't have a problem....until this last box of 9mm. The wife shot that up and it was very filthy and difficult to clean. The little nooks and crannies around the breech face were especially difficult to clean. I've got another box of 45ACP and a box of 38 Spl I'm hoping to fire this weekend.
 
Last weekend, I was shooting a couple of boxes of the new Wolf polymer coated stuff to see what it was like (through a SIG) and a box of WWB through a Glock.

The WWB was much dirtier than the Wolf -- surprise!

The Wolf was less consistent in power -- a few rounds, though not squibs, where undoubtedly very light in the loafers.
 
Nah! But I'm a little weird and actually enjoy cleaning my guns after I shoot them.
Heck if they ain't at least a little dirty after a day at the range that means I don't get to clean em up afterwards.
I just don't figure I can expect cheap and clean all in the same box.

Then again maybe I just don't get em clean.
 
I've generally always found the WWB to be dirty. Some lots are better then others as they usually change powders between lots. The cheap ammo is always made with whatever components are cheapest at the time, hence the differences from lot to lot. I just always expect it to be dirty and I'm pleasantly surprised when it's not.

Btw, you should have seen my CZ-75 after I fired 500 rounds of WWB without cleaning when I took LFI 1. I've never seen a gun so dirty. To the CZ's credit, I didn't have a single bobble during the whole course, even when I switched to Fed 9BP JHP at the end when the gun was filthy. No failures to feed, failures to eject, failures to go into battery, nothing. The WWB also went "bang!" every time.
 
At $10 per hundred, the stuff is cheap and always goes bang but it is dirty. How consistent is it? Has anybody ever chrono'ed it?

A local gunshop has some 'remanufactured' (supposedly by Winchester) 124gr 9mm in Fiocchi cases. They sell it in plastic bags. Anybody heard of this?
 
I have not had the problems with WWWB that you speak of maybe mine is from a different lot, do you still have the boxes maybe you can post the lot numbers to see if we get a corelation and then know which lots to look out for.

I usually shoot reloads,but to get some new brass and to just try it out i bought four boxes of 50 of the new brass cased blazer ammo and That stuff was great, perfect feed and function, very clean in the works afterwards, of course YMMV but it did work for me.

I usually but the 100 round value packs from wally world, when I am replenishing my brass supplies, but i think i may change that.

I love cleaning my guns as much as anybody, but this was pretty ridiculous. My gun was as filthy shooting those 50 rounds as it was when I shot 500 rounds of the old WWB. And cleanup was much easier with the other one -- That's what bothers me the most. the powder residue/dirt seems like tar. You've got to actually use elbow grease to get it off.

I'll probably keep buying it, but it'll probably only go through my FEG.

I recently read a report somewhere that (some or all) 9mm WWB was now made by S&B. So let's Czech out those boxes and see what they say. :)

I've found WWB to be dirty. I think its due to the floor sweepings they mix with the powder.
 
Hmm, now that you mention it ... Shot 4 boxes of WWB (2 .45, 2 9mm) 100 round value-packs at the range this past weekend and coincidentally was shooting every stainless pistol I own, so while cleaning Sunday afternoon, it sure did seem as though my guns were dirtier than normal.

What did rather annoy me, when I restocked at Wal-Mart last night, was that the clerk called my attention to the fact that Winchester has now re-packaged the .45 ACP (100 round value-pack) in smaller boxes of loose ammo (as they've always done the 9mm WWB) ... a minor irritant, to be sure, but I simply don't like loose cartridges ...

I used to shoot WWB in 9mm until all the places I frequent are always out of it (Academy and Wal-mart. People buy it up like crazy here).

I decided to try out CCI Blazer Aluminum in my Baby Eagle and I've been pretty impressed with the cleanliness of it compared to the WWB. I went through at least 1000 rounds of the WWB and it was consistently dirty.

I've had one stovepipe and 2 failures to feed with the CCI, so far (Versus none with WWB), but I consider it par for the course. I just eject the round, reload it in the next mag and it goes bang. :)

Only thing that sucks is I'm not collecting all the brass, but I've got a lot of the other stuff anyway and I don't reload 9mm yet. The Blazer is only $3.86 a box at Academy though, so I guess I can't complain. Once I get a progressive press, I'll probably start shooting plated bullets or something on the cheap and get consistent AND cheap ammo!

I shoot wwb from wally world through my subgun.

Kind of grimy but nice and cheap.

the first 4 boxes of WWB i bought were fine, but the last 4 i have bought have seemed to be dirtier, the casings even eject blacker. hrmmmm?? but still no FTFs of anykind and i refuse to put russian ammo in my gun or aluminum.
 
I've had great luck with the CCI Blazer aluminum, and its cheaper to boot. I see no reason to shoot WWB if you have an Academy around.

I thought it was all in my mind.
Shot .45 and .38+p last week and cleaning was something else.
But.. it's still cheap and I really don't mind cleaning, sooo.

In the last 7 months I run through 4 cases of Winchester "white box" in 9mm.
I've found it to be quite accurate and very reliable. Since I'm too lazy to re-load 9mm, I appreciate the low price.

However... as I used up my last few boxes of WWB, I decided to restock with CCI Blazer. Just had 3 cases delivered last week.

Like several of the other posters, I've noticed quite a "cloud" when I shoot indoors. Especially rapid rife. Not as bad as using commercail cast bullet reloads, but pretty close.

Hope the Blazer works out better.

It is dirty stuff. I run it through my Uzi 'cuz it's cheap (the ammo, not the Uzi) and you should see the inside of the receiver when I'm done. About a billion little flecks of brass. Also, the quality control on the WWWWB isn't the greatest - I've got an mpeg I took during a full magazine dump where you can hear the gun's rate of fire change dramatically while shooting. I guess the best part of buying WWB at Wal-Mart is watching the expression on the clerk's face when you tell him the ammo is for a submachine gun.

Yeah, I've gotten to the point where I strip the receiver and dump the whole thing into a pan of mineral spirits to get all that junk out of it.
