Is it possible to run a background check on yourself?

never expected to mention this info...

All BACA members are required to submit to a fingerprint-based backgrund check through the FBI (we're working with abused kids, so it makes sense). Our local po-po does our prints for free, and the FBI charges $18...

Anyone wanting to know where to send it in, PM me...

Thanks guys for the info.

I'll wait to hear back from the bank about my credit report to see if there is anything there that is a red-flag.

I'm also planning to get a second Glock 22 (I like my first one so much that I just for some reason want a second) - and that will be in maybe a week or two, so I'll see what happens then. If I get approved with no problem, then I'll know that the frustration was unrelated to my background check last time.

If something does come up, then I'll mail off a letter to the FBI to get a copy of my background and see what's up. Or, I'll get some PI firm to look into things. I don't care what it costs, keeping my background free of erroneous information is super-important to me.

This could be nothing.... or it could be something, but I'm going to err on the side of caution. Also, I'm somewhat glad that my CCW required fingerprints (one of the rare times I'll say that), because that might at least provide some evidence as to who I am versus who any identity thief is - assuming this 'might' be a case of identity theft.

I'm tending to think that it was just credit card fraud and nothing else as of the moment, but you never know.

Buying that Glock might give me a better idea in a week or so if there is anything going on.

back in '95 I had someone get ahold of my ssn and run up a 200.00 phone bill in orange county. It took years to get it cleared, and because the identity theft law in ca wasn't on the books yet, I couldn't file a police report, I had to file a report with the secret service, since they were the point guys for identity theft at the time. Definitely get your credit report from all 3 agencies, and get a fraud warning inserted on your report as well.

In Virginia, the Virginia State Police will do a check for a nominal fee. The form is on their website. A lot of employers have prospective employees sign the form so that they can do a check before hiring them.
