Is it true Google doesn't allow gun advertising?

According to this site http://www.ammonow.com/ Google has pulled all guns and ammo advertising from its services. Apparently it goes against its policy of preventing violence to people and animals. I'm trying to figure out whether this is true, whether it is old news or new news, and if so, how I can contact Google to complain. What would upset me the most is not that Google is anti-gun, but the fact they are censoring advertisements based on their political agenda.

Can anyone help me understand this situation?

welcome to reallity.....google 'sig hand guns' and it will show no matches.
change to bing search and the page fills to overflowing.
i have no use for google but the profit when i sold its stock and its maps

im not consistant with results.
i do not understand...

and as i seldom use google, i don't care.
....as for social engineering, there ought to be a law against it.

Really...I googled sig handguns and it showed over 1 million matches, the first being sigarms.com

There was an ad the bottom of this page for Appleseed and Handgunlaw.us

If I hover over it with the cursor it says the url starts with google ads

edti: as soon as I hit submit I got an ad for "Help NRA Fight for You"

On other boards that have nothing to do with guns, I get Frontsight academy ads through google ads

i googled 'sig handguns'....

seems to be a google ad for...you guess it.....sig hand guns.....

I don't know about advertisements, which are a different matter, but I have -and have had - no trouble "Googling" firearms sites. I never had this kind of trouble with AOL, either, despite what some people said about it. Some computers in workplaces have filters on them that may block this kind of searching, but you should be working anyway. :p

We use Google's ad server to serve ads here on THR, so that's why you see the google ads link on the ads you're referencing.

Google won't accept ads for guns, ammunition or anything weapon-related, nor ads from any site that sells weapons. How Sig got that ad in, I don't know.

You will see Google Products listings sometimes for retailers who sell the gun you searched for. Google Products is a little more lenient.

I run ads for scopes, lasers, etc, and I'm constantly having to battle with Google when my ads are rejected because their computer thinks I'm advertising guns. It requires human inspection to have the ads approved.

Google Adwords treats guns the same as pornography.

Just wanted to note that not only has this been proven false (Google doesn't officially allow firearms *advertisements*, but the actual search results have nothing to do with the ads), but also the official policy of Bing (Microsoft) is also to not allow firearms ads either.

Remember too, there are different divisions that have different policies.

Search and Adsense/Adwords are firewalled and don't talk to each other. Search is happy to index and make available, and it will happily help you find firearms, ammo, and whatever else. The ad side, though, has rules that disallow big chunks of what we do here.

I'd get mad, but it wouldn't do any good. It is what it is, and while they're based in California and need to deal with stuff that may be legal here but not over there (or in NY, or DC, or MD, or wherever), they seem to be a bit more reasonable than they were a few years ago.
