to take a nickel-plated model 36 and send it off for duracoating or ceracoating to a purple finish for my wife?

Please, give me an argument against it!:banghead:

She got her CCW and I gave her the J-frame. Now that its hers, she wants it PURPLE!

Generally, if you have to ask "Is it wrong?", it probably is.

But as it is for your wife, in this case, you can slide.

Charter Arms makes the Lavender Lady, a 2" 38 Special revolver with a lavender frame.

If it has to be a S&W, try to find one in good mechanical condition that needs to be refinished any way. Then you are not hurting the value of the revolver.

Of course, my opinion and $5 will get you an overpriced designer coffee.

If you had a pretty,16 y.o. daughter, would you get her all dressed up for the prom and make her wear hip waders? Oh well. There's no accounting for taste. (Or a lack there of.)

The only argument I can make against making guns look like toys is, real guns shouldn't look like toys.

In the great grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter though.

It is your gun and your wife. Why are you really asking us?

Her gun, her rules.

If it gets her to shoot and carry it, then give her a purple gun!

+1

However, it is unfortunate that it has to be that way:barf: at least its not a Cobra or Detective Special. It's cool that your wife wants to shoot and has her CCW. I don't think my wife will ever be interested in carrying a gun; pink, purple, nickel or otherwise. But that's a topic for another thread. Congrats to the both of you, hope she enjoys the purple gun.

Major reason is it will burn off. Duracoat will burn fast. Cerakote will last a little longer.
Revolvers are not friendly to those kinds of finishes. I've seen the results after a few boxes through.
If she wants a colored gun, get her a semi.

It certainly sounds wrong! Purple does have a certain royal status though. If it is the queen's decree then it cannot be wrong.

I would have it done "Skybluepink" if it would get her to carry. She got her Permit but never carries.

I cannot give someone I love a Taurus. A semi is out . She won't shoot any of mine at all; not a 9mm, 40SW, or 45ACP. She shoots her 4" GP-100 pretty well with .38s, but it doesn't fit her purse.

She used to say that her favorite color is chrome, so I thought the nickel Smith would make her happy.

The new Charter Arms are good, and they can be had with color anodized frames. I'd go that route before completely destroying the value of a 36.

Nickel will need to be stripped, adding to the cost. If that's not a problem for you, git 'er done.

Charter Arms make a "Lavender Lady" in 32 H&R or a 38 special. If my wife would carry either one, I would order it here on next day service. Price is around $350 and shipping can be as low as $6 depending where you buy. If 38 sp is a little much, never doubt the effect of 5 32 H&R mags taking part in a conversation/altercation. There are distributors out there who will guarantee any gun they sell against almost anything.

Yes it is wrong, but if you gave it to her let her do what she wants. Or buy another equivalent gun and do it with that one.

I would get a 637 and send it off to have it anodized. 637 is lighter, they are pretty cheap brand new, and they have a life time warranty. Sending the frame and barrel off to be stripped (they put some protective coating on them) and anodized couldn't be more that $150 and it should hold up better than a bake on 'kote' type of finish, and should look better too (that's pretty subjective, I know).

Give her what she wants, or make sure you have a comfortable couch to sleep on.
Been there , done that.
Pink Pearl grips, grips with a rose on them, holsters with tassles.
BTW, I am divorced now, go figure ?
I got the house and the dog, but she kept her guns.
