Is Kahr offering the M1 carbine in the 5.7mm that FN's FiveseveN and whetever that gun Clancy's Splinter Cell features P90, I think its called? I thought I saw this in SGN the other day. If so, this sounds like something I might consider, I'd not have a .30 UScarbine, but in the 5.7, maybe.

I believe you saw a kit that you can use to convert your M1 Carbine into a bullpup rifle. I think it's made my an Israeli company. Still .30 caliber.

Although this doesn't answer the question asked, Fulton Armory offers the M1 carbine in 5.7 MMJ Spitfire, basically a .30 carbine case necked down to .22 caliber.

That is what I saw, in a ad. I remember it said Fulton Armory, now. A guy at the local gunshop told me that InterOrdance Arms, ( I think that is right) is a subsidiary of Kahr, and that they offered this gun, too. He didn't work there, but he seemed to be knowledgeable. Also, I didn't realize I was talking about a $1100 firearm when I was asking. That would almost be an M1A. So I won't be getting one. BTW, my understanding is that 5.7mm spitfire is the 5.7x28 cartridge that the FN's are chambered for. Am I incorrect about this? TIA.

I just handled

an M1 carbine which I was told was Israeli-made, new, chambered for a .30 Carbine necked down to .22. Seemed well made. Don't know how the ballistics would stack up vs FiveSeveN or the original .30 Carbine.

Roland,

You are incorrect.
The 5.7x28 FN is not the same as 5.7MMJ, which would be a 5.7x33 in French.
The MMJ will send a 40 grain bullet at 3000 fps which is substantially more powerful than the FN.

Why?
.30 carbine is more powerful than .30 Mauser and 5.7 Johnson is more powerful than 5.7 FN in a gun that needs all the power it can get.

I remember an old, old, magazine article about converting a carbine to .221 Remington Fireball. He had to use roundnose bullets to get OAL down to fit in the carbine magazine, but the gun shot.
