Worth getting an M1 carbine?

Hi-
My only background with ANY rifle is very limited, and mostly .22 caliber. I have not fired the old single-shot .22 bolt action Savage (was my grandfather's) for many years.

Last Monday bought a brand-new Auto-Ord. .30 Carbine, for about $700. I could have maybe justified to my wife buying the FN FAL, but with ammo and spare parts (far away?)...she studied Voice.

Nobody at the store told me that the first round should come upwards from the clip. Putting a round from above, into the chamber almost never fires.

So much for my total ignorance. And! although brand-new, the store told me today that it also needs to be oiled before it is fired... but a brand-new gun?

Maybe the directions should remind novice shooters of these two basic facts, instead of things such as "Always be careful and do not aim the gun at people or animals".

Does a new car need fresh oil? This gun should be more advanced than Brittany Spears...

After pulling the trigger for about 8 minutes, when it finally fired, it was much more rewarding than what came out of the old .22.

"Toy gun" or not. Among others, it was issued to Pacific Airborne troops in WW2, including an old friend's father.

If the M1 carbine is USGI, buy it, if you choose a AK over it, your an idiot (Saying this as nicely as possible) ;)
