Is Ruger Serious About the Revolver Biz?

Ruger builds heavy revolvers that are built to take use, even abuse, and withstand powerful loads without having to have a "longevity package" or be reworked by the factory every few years. Yes, to do that, they have to be heavier and heavier built, but many people would rather carry a few extra ounces and be assured that they can shoot as many heavy magnum loads as they'd like through their gun without problems.

That's Ruger's market niche. They don't see the need to go after the "light, small, concealable gun offered in every caliber imaginable" market, because they have their own market - affordable, heavy-caliber guns that are extremely durable. Their autos are also very affordable, and very durable, although they seem like they'd make better police duty guns than anything else because they're difficult to conceal.

Ruger has never really bought into the "tactical" market which is just fine by me. They make good, solid firearms geared toward sportsmen--that's their "niche," and they remain faithful to it--good for them.

One other advantage with the Ruger vs the super-light Ultra-exotic-tanium guns some companies make...if you run your ammo supply dry, the Ruger makes a better "Last Act Of Defiance" club than those feather-weights.

 Never mind how I know, I just know.....

Yep....my 7.5" Redhawk....if I ever need a hammer, its there. Could probably be used to pound enough nails to build a dog house and still shoot well the next day. I like my Smiths too, but don't think they'd take the same abuse.

The moronic "safety" messages stamped into Ruger firearms are show-stoppers for me.

Don't blame Ruger for that! Those messages are a direct result of a series of brutal verdicts in the '70's. Ruger has no choice in the matter. Blame trial lawyers, the same fine folks who brought us luke warm water in hotels :cuss:

Ruger needs to make a 4" .45acp revolver...that would make me happy...I like there revolvers but there auto's just dont ring my bell.

As much as i dislike the safety message i'll take it over the integral locking mechanisms found in either S&W or Taurus revolvers any day.
