I’m not sure if they’ll get back with me, but I just send an e-mail [below) to Shaw’s supermarkets asking them what the deal is with the lack of gun and hunting magazines in their stores. NH is the wrong state for a business to being anti-gun.

Recently my wife and I stopped into your new Shaw’s at 300 Main St in Nashua. I was looking for a hunting or firearms magazine and found none. Not Hunting, Guns and Ammo or anything whatsoever to do with firearms. Are these magazines intentionally kept out of your stores in an attempt to be politically correct? If so, I’m disappointed. I like shopping at Shaw’s, but Market Basket and Hannaford’s are just as convenient.

Has anyone here had any experiences with Shaw’s that would indicate they’re anti?

I had not noticed to be honest with you. I typically look in other locations for reading material, in fact try to stay out of the grocery stored. Wife shops at Hannafords, we are in Hudson NH and it is the only one close to us.

I will look the next time I am in just for curiousity sake now...

Sometimes its' just pure marketing.

The Pick N' Saves around here have Guns, Guns & Ammo, Special Weapons for Law Enforcment, Handgunner etc. from spring through October it seems, then in late October, all the gun magazines are "Rifle buyers guide" and hunting mags only. Then all gun mags dissapear for a few months.

I could be wrong, as I haven't really checked it weekly against a calander etc. But I am positive the gunrags dissapear for a few months, then come back.

The Walgreens around here often follow the same pattern. The gunrags all dissapear after November, then start filtering back in during spring.

Looks to me like it's a simple supply-demand equation. Your store may be different, but until you hear something "anti" from managment, I'd assume it's just a business decision.

If you do hear something "anti", come down on them like a ton of bricks, and get your friends to do it too.

It may not hurt to ask one of the employees-specifically the receiving clerk.He/she can often go to the distributer and request specific magazines-if they are not "authorized"-then it could be fair to speculate if there's a"PC" factor involved.
I work in grocery and for a long time our store didn't have gun/hunting mags.I spoke with our Adams News rep (the distributor) and now we have SG news,Shooting and G@A in addition to Sportsman's Weekly and another hunting rag.Not the best, but an improvement...:D

No replies from Shaw's yet. If I do hear from them I'll post their response here.

AllLockedUp and RockyNH, are you guys members of the Nashua Fish and Game? If so, we need to get together and send some rounds down range.

In Massachusetts, I've found that the lack of gun mags in some stores is more of a business decision..."They just don't sell"...rather than a political statement. Rumor has it that a local Wal-Mart stopped stocking rifles and shotguns because they simply were not selling.

Not too many houswives are interested in buying American Handgunner while the kids are hanging all over her and whining.

Most housewives aren't into motor sports either, but Shaw's has at least a dozen hot rod and monster truck type magazines.

Still no answer from Shaw's. I might have to venture away from the pc and use a phone.

Ahh....why even bother with Shaw's? On a lot of stuff, their prices are higher anyway. And I don't buy into their 'give us your personal information and we'll give you a neat card so you can pay less than people who don't' BS.

Shop n' Slave....uhhhh I mean Hannaford's :D , carries a good selection of hunting and firearms related magazines. At least the one in Concord does.
Hunting, SWAT, American Handgunner, Handguns and some others.

I always leave the magazines face up in the cart, just to see who I can wind up. :neener: If that doesn't work, sometimes the AR-15.com shirt will. :p
