Is the AWB sunset only news to us and the grabbers?

I watched the news broadcasts of all 4 local channels. The AWB sunset was maybe the 4th or 5th story. Only KHOU channel 11 gave it more than 5 seconds. The channel 11 story was also surprisingly neutral. They presented both sides without any commentary one way or another.:what:

I have also been flipping between CNN, FOX, and MSNBC all night. Not even a single blurb. On the MSNBC main page, not even a word.

Despite all the people that supposedly want it to be extended, are we the only ones who are really interested?

All of the people who I know that aren't into guns are unaware. The topic was not even brought up at the BBQ today.

20 minutes till midnight (central time) and still not even a blurb on CNN. I guess they are going to not even admit that it has fallen!!

The AWB has been mentioned in over twenty articles and stories today in papers and on TV. I guess in the big sceme of things that is not a lot. I doubt most people would know or care.

I mentioned the AWB expiring to my libertarian-minded brother-in-law, and I had to explain to him what it was. He still didn't understand why I want to by an AR tomorrow.

I think this is where the ignorance of the masses actually helps us out. Yeah when the press runs the "OMG the AWB is expiring!!!" stories the people go "whoa that's horrible they shouldn't do that". But with the attention span of most people in this country by next week it won't even be a blip on their radar screen if they even managed to WATCH the news or read a paper long enough to catch one of the stories.

The symbolism of the gun ban matters only to those of us who take the right to keep and bear arms seriously and those who work to take them away. Middle America doesn't care one way or the other; fortunately we(gun owners) are politically stronger and more vigilant than we were in 1994. The same can't be said for the gun control crowd, although they are just as committed to their cause as we are.

I think it hasn't been covered much on the news because the media believed the anti's, who were telling them that the ban expires at the end of today, and tomorrow is actually the first "day of freedom".

As we all know, the way the law was written, it is effectively repealed today. I've written to the local media in my area and given them the link to the BATFE announcement. Now I'll just have to see if they correct the stories. I'm not holding my breath...

That's WHY it was allowed to expire: The only people who really care about it are us and the anti-gunners, and most places we outnumber them by a considerable margin. The politicians understand polling enough to understand that those polls showing widespread support for it are hooey.

The places where we don't outnumber them, alas, it's no big deal because the state laws are already as bad or worse.
