Is the SIG Legion series worth the extra cost?

I registered on-line and did the $0.0 order in the web-store for the "free" soft case. Haven't heard a peep back from them, but its not been but a couple of months. Anyone else register and actually get the case?

Got a tracking number from SIG via Email, seems my "free LEGION - 5.11 - PREMIUM ZIPPERED PISTOL CASE" is on its way.

Hopefully you get the right one.

Rather than a coin and case for my 226 Legion, I received both for a 229.

Not that I care, wasn't planning on using the case anyway, only my Wilson has come with a case I've actually used after the first opening. The rest just sit in a pile in my basement.

The P320 X5 Legion is a good deal over a standard X5 if you are going to upgrade the standard X5 with the heavier Tungsten grip module and 1911 springs anyway.

not to me. I own a legion p226. great gun, but I've shot standard p226 many times and I find them good enough. the extra features are nice, but just like a 1911. to some all the upgraded are needed.....I prefer a standard 1911 with just better sights than milspec ones.

Came today. Don't know what defines the "right" one Its a tight fit with the X5 and six 21 round mags, but its usable. Better fit for my regular P320 (lack of mag well). As a freebie, I can't complain, but for the list price in the SIG on-line shop you can do better at Midway IMHO, if you are in the market for a soft side range case with room for six spare mags.

I wish they’d give you a choice. Do you want a case and coin or a free magazine.

I’d take the magazine. I don’t use the case either. And the coin? No idea what the hell to do with it.

Truth, though with my 226 I don't even use the OEM magazines anyway, Mec Gar 18 rounders work perfect, hold +3 and are cheaper.

Ironically, all "Made in Italy" SIG mags, including the 229-1's are made by Mec-Gar. And those tend to be very good indeed.

To me the Legion is the complete package. Most upgrades are things I would spend the money on anyway, but a few I wouldn't (like the Cerakote Elite finish and shortened beaver tail). A barely used pre-owned Legion would be worth the price, but only the later ones with the improved finish, imho.

I’m not sure cerakote could be considered an improved finish compared to PVD.

The Legion PVD has has some pretty well known issues with being pretty weak, so in this case... maybe. I think the newer cerakote doesn't look as nice, more greenish than gray.

Yeah I’m aware of some of the early Legions’ PVD finish wearing early or having other issues. I’d still prefer that to paint.

I too prefer the color of the older PVD-finished Legions. The newer finish is, I believe, Cerakote "Elite" which supposedly holds up pretty well, but I have no experience with it. I'd rather have the tried and true Nitron finish myself.

Yes, nitron would have been better, I agree.

I don't know one way or the other but I do find humor in adding tungsten to a poly pistol to deliberately add weight.

Muzzle-flip... balance.... whatever - it is still funny to me.

Todd.
Once upon a time (early 1970's in a galaxy far far away (New Jersey) I used to repair cameras, specifically movie cameras. there was a line of cameras that had a big lead weight in the grip that added heft and "balance".
A lot of purchase decisions are made on the basis of "feel". How does that gun feel in your hand? Do you like the way the controls in that new car feel as you're sitting in the dealership? "Feel" is hugely important to a person liking a thing on initial handling.
