Well is it? SWFA is promoting it heavily and have and incredible story of a customer popping ballons at 120o yards with the 10x42. I don't want to buy an expensive scope, but want performance. What do you think?

The only complaints I have ever heard were about the old ones made by Tasco, the newer ones are good though. Of course they are not going to be up there in the same class as a Leupold or better, but for $300 they are probably the best deal out there in a "tactical" scope. Go to snipersparadise.com or snipershide.com and search, you will find a lot of info on them.

Not junk at all. Almost as good as the $1k Luppy Mk4 10x. I have them both. On another note, for half the price of the SS, Bushnell makes an Elite 3200 in 10x that's the best $150 MilDot scope you can get.

I have a

SuperSniper as well. Every one I show it to is amazed at the quality for the price.

I have enjoyed mine, it is a quality scope. I think the only real problem was that they were made by tasco, which of course is a synonym for "junk". However, tasco was not a manufacturer, they were a marketer. So the quality was determined by the specs contracted out to the manufacturer.

In the case of the Super Sniper, this was to compete for a Navy contract, so the specs were considerably superior to the standard economy stuff they were making.

Good luck!

I have one. Very nice scope. Not what one would call svelte.

They are large, heavy, durable scopes with surprisingly good optical quality.

I just ordered my second one yesterday as a matter of fact. Best scope deal on the market IMHO. :)

Like madkiwi stated, the SS was produced in Japan by one of the two big companies, I forget if it was LOW or Hakko, to tighter specifications than all the other Tascos.

What many people don't realize is companies like Simmons, Tasco, Bushnells, etc, share common manufacturers. The quality of the scope is determined by how much quality the distributer/marketing company wants LOW or Hakko to put into the product. Those japanese companies are capable of producing scopes with as much, and sometimes even better, quality than our domestic manufacturers or the European companies. The quality we see in the scopes depends on how much money we're willing to give them.

M.Cowboy, who has them for $150?
I have not seen them advertised for less than $189-$199 since I realized they were a good deal.

My grandkids had some balloons this weekend.... about 2ft in diameter! :)

I've used a "super sniper" and it's an "okay" scope. There's better stuff out there for $300 bucks though.. and the worst part about it is that sooner or later you're gonna want to sell it....

I've seen some "mint" ones on AR15.com for $150 and the guys had a hard time selling them.

99% of the guys that have Mil-Dot scopes also have no idea about how to properly use one.... never bother making up a card for one or even know you should....

What comparable or better scopes are out there for $300?

For fixed 10x (a good sniper scope) mildot, I could hardly suggest the Bushnell Elite 3200 more. Great item.

I paid close to $100 for mine, thru the Bushnell outlet (only in Lenexa, KS). Anyone on a budget, keep SWFA's sample list bookmarked and check every week.

i have both and have yet to use either but i am glad to hear that people dont think they are a waste of money.

i will try the super sniper on my .50 during the summer and if it breaks or does not hold 0 its going back to swfa, asap. they claim its capable to handle the .50 so i will give it a try

shoobe, is the Elite 3200 really comprable to the SS?

I've had an Elite 3200 3-9x40mm and thought it was a good scope, especially for the price, but I didn't particularly think it was anything impressive. I've handled the 10x40 mil dot 3200 and like the 3-9x40 I had these seemed to have excessive center to edge distortion.

I've never handled a SS, so I don't really know what kind of quality they are.
Can you or stealthmode give us a rundown of how they compare in different attributes like flare suppression, distortion, color, clarity, light transmission, etc?

I think if I was going to get a fixed 10x mil dot I'd probably get the SS just because they offer an AO...actually I'd get the Elite 3200 because I'm a poor college student :banghead:
Having not handled the SS I'm guessing the Elite 3200 is probably 3/4 the scope quality of the SS at half the price (the better deal).

Is the side focus SS worth the extra hundred dollars?

The rear focus version is less expensive but I am concerned that it has less tube length for positioning in the rings, and I do not have a lot of leeway to play with on my old Winchester.

Sorry. To be perfectly clear, I have never used a Super Sniper.

My 3200 is really very good. I got it for the price, to get something semi-serious on top of the gun, but at this point I see no reason to change it out.

Resolves very well, even at the edges, seem to have no spherical distortion, no chroma shift, etc. I mean, it probably does have some, but I have not noticed it, and I am a picky bastard when it comes to visual interfaces.

I have also been very pleased with its light-gathering. Easy to shoot well into dusk. I have played briefly with some really high dollar scopes, and it doesn't work in full-on /night/ like those, but is in the VX-3 catagory, I would tend to say (though I didn't have anything for side by side comparison, again).

Also, good click stops, and seems to lock into the click first time, and is repeatable as far as I can tell. I am using more holdover with the dots than comeups with the clicks, so haven't really wrung it out, but zeroeing and the little clicking over has had preditcable results and returned to zero. I do click past by one, then back, but that's just out of habit.

I cannot recall if this is supposed to be rainguarded, I think the 200 means yes, and its notable that I have shot in rain without noticing it. Waterproof logbook and waterproof gun. Only /I/ was unhappy.

And, it looks pretty cool:

So, there's my somewhat off-topic mini-review.

Show me one. A lot of times they sell for very close or more than you can buy one from us. Here is a link to one that just sold on eBay for $285. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31714&item=7138210096&rd=1
Here is another link to one that still has 4 days to go that is already up to $331. ]http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31714&item=7140443382&rd=1
We sponsor and frequent AR15.com daily, one has never been listed or sold at that price that I have seen. These scopes hold their value very well because they are such a good deal.

Haven't been here in a while, good to see that WILDALASKA has not changed any.

What is your opinion of using quick release mounts with the SS? What other mounts are there that are fixed but also allow the scope to be moved to another weaver rail?

I am not a big fan of quick release mounts simply because of the potential for them to come off or become loose.

If you have the need to remove the scope often then Leupold QRW or Warne Maxima rings are the best. Both usually return to within 1 moa.

Badger makes the best fixed rings for picatinny style bases.
