Is there a 2 3/4 in Copper plated BBshot available?

I prefer to use something bigger than birdshot, even big birdshot. The 'house guns' here are loaded with 00 buck in the magazines (either Hornady TAP red hull or Federal LE127 00), and carry Brenneke KO slugs in the Sidesaddles.

YMMV of course.

Check with midway for lead copper plated BB shotshell. I like Remington coppered lead #4 shot for Close Home Defense. 20 or so years ago one of my co-worker shot a guy breaking into his house with a simular load. It worked well the perp was hit in the front of both legs and run. The police pick him up at the hospital later the same night. My friend was thankful that his wife and he were safe and he did not kill anyone. The Grand Judy no billed him but charged the prep.

Lee, a guy shot those Hornady TAP loads out of a cylinder Wilson 870 and experienced unbelievably tight patterns. Have you patterned your loads? Do they do the same?

Inside my house I have #4 buckshot in/on the ready gun. However, at the ranges inside one's house, I think whether BB or whatever that it is a distinction without difference.

El Tee,

Sorry- just now saw the question.

The Federal LE127 00 (9 pellets, 1325 FPS) I've tried patterns amazingly well out of a CYL bore. Patterns at 25 yards are about 3" in the only 870 handy with an 18" barrel.

The Hornady doesn't do that well, perhaps because it moves out at 1600 FPS, but it will keep all 8 pellets on an 8.5X11" sheet of typing paper at 25 yards. That's my basic requirement for a defensive shotgun/buckshot combo. I haven't seen any 'deals' on the Hornady lately and we're about out of it, but we recently took delivery of a couple of flats of the Federal LE127 00 from ammotogo. I'll be buying a couple more just on GP. I like that stuff...

I'm not willing to argue over whatever you choose to load your HD shotgun with. Close enough, and indeed it doesn't matter too much- if your shot load is delivered to the right place at the right angle of incidence and achieves adequate penetration. Personally I can do with as few ifs as possible. There's more data out there regarding 00 as an antipersonnel load than any other shot size I know of, and I'll stick with what seems to work.

Admittedly I'm fortunate in that I don't have to worry overmuch about overpenetration or stray pellets, given no close neighbors and just my DW and me in the house.

Stay Safe,
