Is there a lightweight j-frame with a 3" or 4" barrel?

I'm interested in a .38+p j-frame S&W with a 3 or 4 inch barrel. I'm basically looking for a lighter version of a Ruger SP-101 with about a 3"or 4" barrel. I can't think of any models that are either lightweight aluminum frame or scandium that have such specifications. Also.. I won't buy a S&W model with the frame lock. But, I guess I'll call that immaterial right now. I'm just curious if there's a model out there now that fits these specs?

Colt made Cobra's with barrels longer than 2 inches.

There are plenty of late model Colt Cobras around with 2 inch barrels. Gun Parts Corp. sells new 3" barrels for these if you want to go that route. You can also look for an old Colt Viper in 4", they had an aluminum frame, made in the 70s, nice gun. Also, the OLD S&W Model 12 came in 2" and 4", you could always put a 3" barrel on it if you wanted to customize it. I have shot plus P out of all of these guns but would not make it a steady diet for them.

The S&W M632 in .327 Magnum comes in a 3" barrel.

All the S&W Airweight revolvers in .38 Special +P like the M637, M638 and M642 now come with a 2.5" barrel.

Like said above, the S&W Model M&P360 in .357 Magnum comes in a 3" barrel and it weights only 14.7oz. That is a very nice revolver but with a Retail price of well over $900 it's a bit high.

I believe S&W has come out with a number of Airweight .38 guns with 2.5" barrels. Not quite up to the specs you're looking for, but they're not as spendy as their M&P 360. I think they have full-length extractors.

Buddy of mine just picked up a S&W model 37 3 inch for 330 OTD.

Nice little gun.

He recommends it highly

The bottom revolver in the following photo is a Model 37 "Airweight" S&W J-frame with a 3" barrel. Nice revolver that shoots quite well. Made in 1971 and a great, pinned barrel S&W revolver!!!

Isn't the Police Positive basically a small-frame Colt with a longer barrel? They always looked very trim to me.

I carried a md 36 in a shoulder holster way before they had cwp's, that is the right weight gun, The SP101 is too heavy. You may not need a 3" barrel, you will be surprised what you can do with a snub nose if you practice. I used to reload and have shot a lot of rounds thou a MD36 that I bought in 1969.
