Is this a deal I shouldn't pass up?

Just got back from a friend's house where I was helping him take inventory of his guns. Long story short; I got him interested in handguns about 18-20 years ago and he got on a gun buying kick where he bought about 60 guns in a very short span of time, most of which never made it to the range and were never shot. He quickly lost interest in guns and so they remained in his safe but he didn't want to sell them either. The other day he told me that he really had no use for most of them and would be happy to sell the majority of them. I went over there tonight and picked up an unfired electroless nickeled S&W Airweight 442 and a DAO Beretta Centurion in 40. I was looking at a beautiful S&W 29 with a 4" barrel, you know the kind with the see your face in the blued finish, which he offered to me for $400. I just can't make up my mind about this one as I'm not a real big .44 magnum fan but it sure is pretty and I don't have any S&W revolvers with that deep blue finish. Is this a good enough deal that I just shouldn't pass it up and could get my money out of it later should I decide I don't really have a use for it?

I rather like the Smith 29's, particularly the 4" guns. You don't have to shoot magnum loads in it, I rarely do. 44 spl and medium power loads in mag cases w/ a 240 gr bullet @ around 1000 fps are both very comfortale to shoot. Great guns, and are usually extremely accurate.

Can you post a pic? If not what does the serial # start with, an S or an N? What dash # is it? Pinned and recessed? Does it come with the presentation box? Tools? If you can answer a couple of those questions it would help.

$400 is a ballpark price and many will advise you to buy it. I'd probably buy it if it was a -2. If you do buy it be sure to post a pic as we Smith Nuts need our daily dose of big bore guns. ;)

Maybe its different in your area, but around here this would be an instant-buy for me.

If I were you, that would have been in my possession IMMEDIATELY! If everything else measures up, that is one great buy for one great revolver.

Hey Mikey!

I see you're in Phoenix......does your friend have any Colts he needs help disposing of? Hm?

Inquiring minds want to know!

:D

It isn't pinned and recessed but it does have the firing pin on the hammer. He bought it new in the late 80's. It has only had 12 rounds through it, I shot six of them, then it was cleaned and put away.

Snake eyes - he has a Colt Combat Commander, series 80 enhanced version, in polished blue that is unfired.

$400 for an ultra clean 4" 29- (probably 3) is a very good price here.

In my neck of the woods, a well-used M29 4" goes for $450-$495. If you have any interest in getting a 44Mag, this is the one to get. You'll not likely walk into a nearly new M29 for less than $500 at any other time in your life.

I'd be on it like stink on .........!!!!
Like a Duck on a June Bug
Like ugly on an Ape
Like sweat on a fat man
Like Michael Jackson on an a young boy :uhoh:

Really, I would buy it assuming it passes the tests.
