I found one of these in the pawnshop
http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?model=445SH2C&category=Revolver

Taurus titanium .44 special 5 shot

It locks up well, is ported and fully functional.

However it looks like it has been ridden hard and put up wet.

Gouges, scratches, surface wear, leaded barrel etc...

I got the guy to go down to $370 but I left it thinking it was still too high.

I would really like to have one of these and they are discontinued.

Should I go back and get it or let it go?

Appearence and cosmetics play a large part part when it comes to selling used guns. That and the probable fact that this revolver was subjected to a lot of abuse wouldn't make it a very good buy even a a much lower price. If it were me I'd pass. I think $370.00 could buy you a much better gun.

It was $424

He said it was labeled as "new" in his system so he couldn't go lower

MSRP is $600 so that means $425 NIB but since they are no longer made
I'm not sure what bearing that has on it.

Which would be the best answer?

A) Tell him YOUR system says WELL USED so you can't possibly go that high.

B) Tell him your system says his system is full of spit.

C) Tell him to press edit, change new to used and pull a REAL price out of his sphincter..

D) Tell him he has already sunk low enough in your opinion.

Yeah they are discontinued, for now, but they're still out there. I see them quite often NIB out here. In fact I saw some this weekend NIB at the local show.
Taurus has said discontinued before when they were just not producing that model for a while. Maybe they will come back?

Just be patient and you'll find one in better shape at a better price.

That is high. I see "used" but in very condition Airlight S&W's for less than that.

By the way, how do those super light .44s shoot?

TOO high

JS
Me personally, anytime I get to the 350-400 mark I buy Smiths. Taurus's seem to be harder to resale and don't hold their value. [as you can see].
BTW . A couple of years ago I wanted a small 44. Ended up with a S&W mountaingun. used but very clean with almost no finish wear. $400 OTD.

If I ever wanted to sell it, it would move quickly. If [big if] you ever want to sell that Tauri you would probabaly take a loss. My two Tauri's are 38 snubs and carried daily. They were cheap [200] and very reliable. However their resale value stinks compared to the bigboys.

One prominant member on this board recommends to ''Be patient and carry cash''. I took his advice years ago and damn. He was right.

Good luck. Rich

Have a Taurus 450 45Colt that carry every day bought it NIB for $269+ $12 shipping + $20 FFL fee = $301 and it is still perfect , yes that is way high.

leaded barrel etc
= No sale @ just about any price,,,,in my opinion.
External cosmetics such as scratches, gouges and wear spots are meaningless when it comes down to "judging" or "guess-timating" what type of care a firearm has had.

A leaded barrel however should be a serious red flag to anyone.

IMHO, given that there's lead in the barrel of a snubby .44spl that gun would be worth in the neighborhood of $100 - $150.00 to me....maybe- - no absolutly less.... matter o' fact it would be a no-sale.

That's a sure sign of a real problem somewhere. Possibly bad dimensions on the chamber mouths - - rough possibly pitted bore - possible misaligned cylinder...

I've shot thousands of rounds of .44spl, both handloads and factory. Ain't no way, no how a properly loaded and functioning .44spl should lead in a snubby.

CDNN is advertising brand-new S&W 296's for $349.99! That guy on the auction must be living in dreamland.
I agree, preacherman. However, he has 5 bids on it and it is up to $360 so I'm guessing that, since value is what people are willing to pay, that CDNN is asking too little, not that he is asking too much. :scrutiny:

I think it is way too much.

I never use internet auctions to determine price on anything.

1. There is always someone with more money than brains.

2. A lot of guys have "shill bidders" set up to bid it up. You may very well see the exact item "sold" several times since he bought it himself.
Cheeses me off!!!:fire: Put a reserve rather than be decietful.

Enough rant.

Wait for another one in better shape/price to come buy. It will.
