A guy I met at the range today who has a Weatherby Vanguard in .300 Weatherby Magnum. He has a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20X50 scope with Leupold rings and base.

He said he would even trade me for my Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08 with a Nikon Buckmaster 4X40 scope and Leupold rings and base.

I have about $800 in my setup and he must have around $1100 in his. I have never even considered a caliber like this but I saw him put three rounds in one, ragged hole and the setup is in good shape. I guess I am looking for a reason to justify doing it since I JUST got my setup.

Should I do it?

I appreciate any and all input.

Do you know a good orthopaedic doctor for your shoulder?

Sounds like a good trade if you don't mind a little more recoil and the price of Weatherby ammo.

Me, I'd be happy with what you have now.

Rabbit.

I feel the same way, I just didn't want to pass on a great deal, if that is what it ended up being. I just priced the Weatherby ammo, yikes!

Trouble is, your gun is obviously intended for a rather different purpose than his. Yours is lighter, in a perfectly good deer caliber, fairly portable. His is much heavier, in a caliber suitable for moose or caribou, and probably less easy to carry. If you swapped, would his rifle suit the kind of hunting you do?

Also, I agree on the ammo cost problem... :what:

Yeah, I realize there are some big differences in the usage, I just wanted the scope for a long range setup I am building. After looking at everything priced out used, I realize it probably isn't worth it.

Thanks guys.
