I was given 2 boxes of Winchester 45 ACP JHP. The bullets in one box show corrosion spots that I would consider "pitting" of the casing. I have always used new ammo so this is a first for me. My instincts tell me its not safe, but looking for thoughts from those in the forum that have experience with older and surplus ammo. A photo is attached.

Thanks

Unless the corrosion spots are back near the rim / case head, it is safe to shoot.

A case failure in that area in the picture would not prevent a good gas seal.

Further back by the rim is much more critical, and a case failure there is not going to end well.

Was it me?
I'd sort it and shoot it.

Ive shotten plenty of discolored 22lr ammo. but nothing with pitting. I have had some 20g ammo from when i was younger hunting with my dad and grandpa years (15+) ago. and it still shot, had some issues looking at it but they shot.

all i know is dont shoot it if it has issues with the bullet casing connection, and issues with primer area.

if you have to ask, i wouldnt shoot it.

but in know way should any ones post in this topic should sway your decision, then in the event something bad happens from the firing of such ammo should be held to blame....just saying.

p.s Clean them nails ;)

I would shoot it, but that is me. If you do not feel safe then stay with your gut, your instincts are usually right.

I'd shoot it too but I'd hit it with some steel wool first if it feels rough. FWIW I've used shotgun shells that looked WAY worse than that with no issues and no FTF.

Well, I did use some steel wool on it, but it didn't do much to the rounds like in the picture. I appreciate the answers but I am going to go with my gut and weed through the ammo and dispose of anything questionable. My pistol is a glock, so it will eat just about anything. I am more worried about the catastrophic failure scenario. Also, for the record, this decision is my own and in no way due to the statements in this thread.

Thanks
