Is this as stupid looking as I think it is?

I love how most of you seem to think this thing would work. I bet that scope wiggles every time you put a finger on it.

Those 2 piece weaver side mounts aren't the sturdiest things BEFORE you add 27 washers between the two halves. I would wager that screwing the scope mount directly to the wooden handguard with metal plumbers tape or even velcroing the optics to the brim of a baseball cap would be more rigid than this setup.

Well, you could always shoot with both eyes open, use both the iron sights and scope, and split the difference.;)

With the scope off to the side like that, won't you have to adjust for both windage AND elevation as you shoot out farther? I suppose the answer is to put the bipod on 90 deg. to where it's supposed to go, and shoot the rifle laying on its side.:D

The bayo on the Tec-9 might be a good idea, if it's as bad as your ad said it was...

The scope actually feels really sturdy, and this gun doesn't recoil hardly at all (because it weighs about 50 pounds BEFORE I added all this other useless crap to it), but I still don't think it's going to work either. And even if it did work, it would be so awkward to shoot because of how far over the scope is that I don't see me leaving the scope on for very long before I get sick of it and go back to the regular sights.

Besides that, it takes up two spaces in the gun safe with the scope on it now.

I'll post a follow up whenever the weather isn't so crappy and I get the time to take it out and shoot it again.

I've got a custom made side mount on mine that is bolted into the holes on the side of the receiver and it's as solid as a rock! Will try to put a photo up when I get home.

The only thing I question about it is the mag. It looks like i's gonna be a heck of a tripod arrangement with that bipod up front, standing nearly as tall.

You might be surprised how much elevation you will gain with a few shims in your rings. I use stock cut from a coke can with a pair of regular sissors.
The offset scope looks a bit non-traditional but as others have said there is a bit of history with various mil surps being scoped in a similar fashion.
As long as you can use it the side offset will be better than some of the "see through" abominations I have seen . I quess the point is to allow use of both the irons and a scope but in practise neither will work worth a darn!

In use be aware of leaning or " canting" the gun to one side or the other, this is never a good practise but I would expect with the side mount it would exagerate the bad affect

yes it does i would suggest pulling the scope off and sending the rifle to me

I finally got the chance to shoot it today with the scope on it.

The first few rounds were fairly close, but then it started shooting all over the place, and after about 20 rounds, the scope had pivoted about 1/4 turn and wasn't even worth looking through. I think that was actually from my dad laying it on the hood with the scope side down too hard though, but regardless, it was a ghetto setup that was destined to fail from the start.

Using the bipod, the scope hit me in the eye a lot too, but not hard enough to cut me or anything obviously. Still annoying though.

The gun seems to be angry with me or something, because it has decided to jam on a regular basis once more. I tried the 25 round mag in it too, and that thing doesn't work worth a crap. The follower is binding up or something, and will only feed 1 shot at a time, then you have to open the bolt cover and slap up on the magazine to get the next round high enough to feed. As heavy as this thing is, it can become quite a chore.

I didn't shoot worth a crap at the paper targets, but I hit about as good at 100-110 yards at pop cans with the hakim as I did with open sights on my colt HBAR.

The scope on my HBAR is cheap and crappy though, and my shooting is cheap and crappy too, so I'm sure the AR will (should) smoke the hakim accuracy wise, but not today I guess.

I'd still put my hakim up against my M1 or any of the other M1s I've shot though, assuming someone OTHER than me was doing the shooting.

Despite the amount of problems I've had with this gun, it's definitely one of the coolest guns I've ever shot or owned.

I have cross eye dominance makes me look wierd shooting a pistol , but dont see why that wouldnt work for a rifle as long as its lined up right and ridgid .

Dude, what do you need a scope on your treadmill for? It's not like you're gonna get very far away from anything.

I was looking through the new MidwayUSA catalog and in the ring section, someone makes a set of offset rings. They claim that they are for cross eye dominate folks.

I just keep both eyes open or slightly relax/close my left dominate eye. Haven't heard the targets complain yet. Too each his own.

Good luck.
