A few weeks ago I received an email for a free raffle entry for a Barrett 50 Cal giveaway.
The wording was strange and frankly I thought somewhat irresponsible, saying (paraphrasing) "having this weapon would give you more firepower than all your friends gun collections combined. Also it is the ultimate self defense weapon because it will shoot through concrete and steel".

Needless to say firing that weapon in public or even your own home for self defense is absurd. So I just assumed it was a goof trying for humor and a over the top way of promoting the gun.
Even since I took the free entry, I have been spammed by this and other gun related groups for free this and that, if only you pay the S&H.
That I can live with to a point (even though I have not taken them up on any of their offers), even if it increases my chance at winning the raffle.

Today I received this email claiming to try and help those who want a CCW to get one with simple to follow instructions.
As a state licensed CCW holder, I find their claim to be irresponsible at best, maybe even leading someone into criminal activity, thinking they can get a CCW by just answering a few simple questions on the internet, then carrying concealed unlawfully.

So I'd like the forums opinion on this, and will include a copy of the email below;

If you’ve been paying attention, you already know how important it is to have your carry permit.

Every week it seems there’s a new one shooter incident or mass casualty event. And they’re happening everywhere without warning.

But people who carry concealed can protect themselves and their loved ones. They may even be able to stop shooters and save lives.

The problem: It can be difficult and time-consuming to get your cc permit depending on where you live.

The solution: Answer the 6 questions on this page and you could quickly complete a CC qualification that can be used to apply for a permit that is recognized in 29 to 31 states.

Bam... just like that you could receive a valid cc permit that’s recognized in over half of the U.S.

And you could immediately start carrying concealed with confidence, never feeling afraid of being caught unprepared or being unable to protect yourself or your family.

Go answer these 6 questions right now

And don’t worry, these are easy YES/NO questions. You can blast through them in 10 seconds. I’m not kidding.

But please hurry... you never know when the feds might try to shut down this concealed carry permit.

P.S. Donald Cross of Canton, OK says, “Actually this is 100% legit, I did it! It permits you through what is known as reciprocity laws of carrying.”

Free is never without cost.

Exactly!

Being that I subscribe to many gun/ammo sights, often comes this.........You WON, blah blah blah, or free this or that new gadget. I don't open them, delete!

I won't say who has become real bad with sending e-mails, but they have been around for quite sometime and it has now become difficult to shop on their sight for firearms!

Sketchy like they might not actually help you apply for a licence?

Or sketchy like they just stole your identity?o_O

For a small, small fee I'll help you APPLY to get a carry permit...
One fifty dollar BIC pen to help with the forms!

Wolves don't always dress like sheep. Sometimes they dress like Samaritans...

(Psst! Let me know when they giveaway that Fifty Cal, too. I won't be holding my breath...)

I won't say who has become real bad with sending e-mails, but they have been around for quite sometime and it has now become difficult to shop on their sight for firearms!

Do tell!
Being annoying should come at a cost...;)

I really never reply to anything of that nature, no matter who it's from. In this particular case it sounds like a spammer/email harvester looking to collect addresses and sell them.

It is called email marketing and supposedly, entry numbers skyrocket when they ask only for your email address. Huge business. Same thing, basically, when you sign up for a newsletter. A lead to someone selling something is a lead; no matter how you acquire it.

If you have to ask 10/10 times it is. Or create a burner email address. Don't link it to cell phone or other email address. Check occasional.

God bless all the people giving away FREE stuff. They dedicate their life to going bankrupt, so they can go out of their way, just to help you, for no good reason.

IME, anything really " free" is worth less than what you paid for it.
