My friend encouraged me to come and post this here.

I recently bought a Czech vz 24 Mauser from SOG. The gun, overall, is in pretty good condition, but I do have one concern. The top 1 inch of the barrel rotates 360 degrees. I can even slide it off to reveal the main barrel underneath.

Here, just watch the youtube video of it to see what I'm talking about.

Is this normal or should I be extremely concerned? I got it about a week ago now and it has yet to be fired. Should I call SOG and ask for a new one?

um no that is definitely not normal. Its not even threaded, so that beats that notion. Yea I consider myself quite the mauser aficionado and that right there is what I would call SOG over and demand a new rifle.

Not Normal for a Vz...
My guess is that it was threaded for some kind of a suppressor...or muzzle brake or something. Never seen anything quite like it.

I can't tell diddly squat from the crummy vid what part of yours is moving.

But most all Mauser's have a front sight band that is pressed & soft-soldered to the barrel. It may also have a small set-screw under the sight itself holding/aligning it on the barrel before it is soldered.

If it is the sight band that is loose, it should be soldered firmly on the barrel.

Vz24 sight band:

I'd call SOG and whine, or just have a gunsmith solder it properly.

That's not the barrel moving, it's the front sight which is on a band that slips over a reduced portion of the barrel at the front. Needs to be soldered back on.
