Howdy,
Within the first 100 rounds on a new Series 70 reissue I noticed a ring of small scratches on the barrel between the front edge of ejection port and the "-" on the caliber stampings apparently where the first lug was impacting the barrel. They extended perpendicular to the axis of the bore. On the the top flats of the slide and barrel lugs there are many small scratches. Is it safe to polish out the marks with that plastic dishwashing abrasive pad. Should I be concerned or not about the marks. I did clean the edge of the front "-" stamping on the barrel as it had a high edge and corresponding scratch on the tops of the slide lugs. Thanks for any info. After cleaning and greasing with Wilson Grease, firing another 150 rounds I noticed in center of front of slide's first lug and on the tops of lugs and on into the underside of the slide a gouge/tool mark? There is a corresponding mark on the barrel lug tops. Also the barrel lugs seem to impact the slide underside in front of it's lugs enough to leave a wear pattern of the barrel lugs. See photos.
Should I be concerned and have the manufacturer address the problems or not. My other Colts 1911s don't show this wear pattern even after years of firing?

I don't think a kitchen scrubber will polish out those marks, but if they bother you, you can use emery cloth on a piece of dowel to polish the inside of the slide. I suspect the problem is nothing more than burrs that were not properly removed.

But we need to understand that guns are pieces of machinery and wear marks are going to occur. The only way to prevent them is to wrap the gun in velvet and put it in the safe.

Hello Jim,
My previous Series 70 Reissue did not show 25 % of the wear after 400 rounds, especially the impact marks of the barrel lugs or the gouge down the middle of the lug tops and slide. Neither did my Blued officers ACP after 12 years or my Gold Cup. I've seen little scratches that polished off with plastic dish pads but not this amount. It seems almost as has been suggested that the barrel is not comming down far enough. I am seeking opinions because this issue is out of my knowledge. Thanks for your insight into this circumstance. Looking for as many as I can get, to get a balanced handle on it. Take care.
