Picked up a new security 9 and am under 450 rds. Have some bur's forming below the rails where the barrel lug cams back. It's apparently smashing back and moving metal. On a steel frame i would worry less. With anodized aluminum i am worried. The way I understand if the color is missing the the hard coat is gone. Someone pls help determine if this is normal acceptable wear or damage!?! I know, I know I should have saved x amount more and bought x pistol. I have taken my share of ribbing for my cheap ugly pistol. I like it. I just hope it stands the test of time and isn't about to be rendered useless. I emailed ruger and haven't heard back yet. I'm sorry my first post is so long and do low i appreciate any and all help. Th and you for your time guy's.

call ruger customer service and ask them. no one here is likely truly qualified to answer your question.

I am going to contact them but I figured someone here would have some experience or an idea of what is happening. It's to nice out to be staring at a new firearm wondering if I messed up and should have purchased something better.

I can't speak to your specific model but I wouldn't be too worried until you hear back from Ruger. I know in the case of my p226 that it's not unusual to get a little wear as the slide mates to the frame, and it just sorta stops after a while.

Ruger will take care of you if it's a problem.

You should not have buyer's remorse, generally Security 9's are great find. Rugers are generally great guns.

People make a lot of dumb decisions in life. Buying a Ruger is generally not one of them.

Any pics? Ruger builds great guns and has great customer service. I’d give them a call and speak with a technical person. They’re gonna either be familiar with what is likely a normal bit of wear or they’re gonna tell you to ship it to them at which point they’ll make it right with a repair or replacement.

I can't speak to your specific problem, but anodized aluminum does wear and show the bright metal in places that are rubbed. Actually it is true for treated steel (blued, Parkerized, etc.) too. That is just pretty normal. Now scoring, gouging, galling, and the like would be serious problems.

As for the Security 9, that is a first rate pistol at a bargain price. Sure some economies were exercised to keep the price down, but the underlying functionality is all there. I believe you will be happy with that gun for a long time.

There is always an opportunity later on to buy up the line. Get you feet wet with this first, find out what more you might want in a gun, and then spend the money more wisely than you could if you tried to get everything on the first go.
