Hi all, early this week I took my brother, who was visiting for the holidays to the range with me for an little plinking. He has shot very little previously...a couple shots from a handgun and the same from a rifle. He was all excited about spending the day shooting with me. I brought along my Beretta 92FS 9mm, Ruger GP100 .357 magnum, Dan Wesson PMA-S 1911, CZ52, and 2 of my SKS's an M59 and an M59/66 A1. We went through the basics of firearm safety, keying on the 4+1 rules of firearms, functionality of each firearm, loading, unloading, safeties etc. Then I let him start shooting...
He was having a ball...going from one to the other to the other etc....he turned out to be a great shot and had good fire control. I chalked that up to my great teaching ability and form . Seriously I think it is more due to the fact he has great upper body stregnth. (he is a furniture mover and trucker). The strange part comes to him shooting the SKS battle rifle. I went over the how to's etc and let him have at it... Let me preface this with the fact he is 100% right handed....He had great difficulty even getting the rifle in place. One of those things where I was watchin him and yelled ....what the heck is your problem??? Looked like he had some sort of muscle disfunction.... He told me he could not get a functional good grip on the rifle. He then switched it to lefty grip....sighted it in and off he went...what the heckis that all about...I have never seen anything like it. A total righty needing to shoot lefty....Now I am one of those ambidexterous righty types myself and can target/shoot with both eyes open....I can do anything but write lefty. I can shoot all my guns lefty accurately enough though not near as good as righty. But I can't shoot my rifles lefty. Any thoughts???? thanks....mack
