is this strong enough?

No.

Well, maybe its strong enough?

But the one I have isn't big enough to get a rifle case and my hand with the case in it in the C opening at the same time.

I bought it several years ago as a dedicated universal de-priming station.

And it's been gathering dust in the reloading junque box ever since.

I don't have one so I don't know but it looks big enough for 223. Even my hand press is big enough. Might depend on what swage you use. My CH4D goes on top of the press.

It will work but not well or easy. May have to modify the press behind the ram to allow it to fit.

I have a friend who loaded for his 500 Smith & Wesson on one before his Lyman press arrived. Then he used it as a mount for his powder measure.

Until one day he tried to use it as a grab bar when he lost his balance. Snapped it right off at the base.

Try it. If you find it doesn't have enough leverage, you can draft it into service for some other use. Just don't try to use it sideways. It isn't built strong in that direction.

My problem is that I already have the RCBS primer pocket swager combo. I wanted get something inexpensive to mount it on, primarily for swaging. If I was to buy the lee reloader, at $30, and the CH4D, at $40, I may as well get the Dillon Super Swage at $100. I'd have to do alot of swaging to justify $70-$100. I like to think of myself as frugal. My wife says I'm "churp".

Dillion super swager.

I can swage a couple a cases every five seconds or so with my Dillion. I use two hands, the right hand operates the handle, and the spindle arm, the left picks cases up, inserts them on the rod, removes them from the rod.

I have swaged five gallon buckets of 308, 30-06, 223, and anything else with a crimped primer.

I would recomend the Lee Classic Cast Press, but at $94.00 I am not sure how much you would save. The force will come from the linkage to the handle also it is the largest opening they make.

I too have the RCBS Kit, but went with the Lyman Case Prep Center at $130.00 for that work, it works great and I use it all the time for taking out the crimps and cleaning primer pockets as well as champhering cases.

I also have the RCBS press-mounted swager. Used it for years in ignorance. I swaged THOUSANDS of rounds. Now that I have discovered the CH4D I will never go back. I can do 5 or 6 cartridges in the time it takes to do one with the RCBS. One of my buddies has the Dillon, it's faster than RCBS but not near as productive as the CH. If you don't swage much brass then you can put up with the slow way, but with the volume I do any way to get it over with sooner is better.

Who am I to disagree with anyone on this board, but IMHO I side with RC on this one. I own one of these units and have used it for this purpose. It is big enough, physically, for the task. But, with every stroke, I felt that I was at the edge of its capacity.....just a little springy feel that makes me uncomfortable. There are better pieces to use for this purpose, and I long ago gave up and have used a different press for many years for this particular task. YMMV.
