A French soldier (R) from the 13th Mountain Infantry Battalion watches while a British soldier tries the latest French rifle during the Windsor Castle Royal Tattoo in Windsor, Berkshire, on May 12, 2011. More than 700 troops, servicemen and women from different countries feature in the military show which takes place in the grounds of Windsor Castle. The ethos behind the Tattoo is to showcase the proud tradition of the military in Britain and its strong values and standards.

What the heck is that thing on top, a bombproof case for a bottle of wine?

An optical sight wired to a HUD the soldier wears over an eye/s.

Ghost in the Shell is getting closer and closer to reality every day.

I don't think that the huge and really long grips will help at all with prone position firing.
It is a distortion of the camera angle. The near leg of the bipod looks really short, but you can see the left leg...on the outside of the Brit's forward hand...which, of course, looks overly long

...and just when you thought the FAMAS (or in this case the FELIN) couldn't get uglier...okay maybe not, but isn't much of an improvement.

They are French. :D

I find it interesting that they decided that perhaps a real trigger guard was a good idea after all.
I believe what you are seeing is the sling looping back around...with the "trigger guard" being the same form as the original.

:)

Another French Bullpup that ejects cases into the shooters left eye. Great idea! Because we never need to flank left. Only right. We never use the left side of cover so who cares if it's the least ambi weapon ever.

Are those cat whisker things really a bipod? On a bullpup carbine?

French garbage. Still haven't figured out forward ejection. My nephew has designed better weapons out of playdough.

Still haven't figured out forward ejection.

Which is funny, with their neighbor (even sharing the language) building some of the best and most advanced weapons in the world, next to the USA.

And no, I don't wanna hear about how wonderful HK's are. Save for a couple, they're overpriced, overengineered German junk.

Maybe this wasn't such a good idea to let this thread run. Can we keep comments focused on the rifle...like it or not...rather then it's country of origin

"Redneck minute". That should be the name of the interval of time it takes between a France-related topic to be posted on a gun board, and some mouth-breather to make a joke about French cowardice. They may not have a sterling military record in the past century but they were with us when it mattered the most, at the very beginning of the USA. Also, they have never been our enemies... can't say that for many other of the Western European nations, can you?

It's an interesting rifle, and it's fun to read about weapons advances made by friendly nations. I'm tired of hearing about the M4/XM25/Eotech/ACOG all the time.

Thats a good idea :uhoh:, put a scope on top of irons, put a whole computer on top of the scope, then put a rail on top of the computer so you can mount another optic on it...

With that enormous scope assembly on top, I think someone has finally succeeded in making a rifle that is longer top to bottom than front to back! I can't imagine it would balance well.

Question--since this is a bullpup and presumably feeds way back in the rear, why do they need so much vertical room below the barrel? Why make the grips so strangely long?

The bulk below the bbl is for the trigger linkage (and perhaps the gas piston as well). The grips baffle me too...for use with gloves?...baseball gloves? :D

Arctic mittens.

and perhaps the gas piston as well
Its lever delayed blowback

Why make the grips so strangely long?

The front grip is longish because it has the controls for the HUD and such on it.

Remember, its for shooting from behind cover/concealment.

The full FÉLIN system (not just the rifle) passed all of its trials and began limited deployment last year, full deployment starts in July.
