While I’m waiting for my barrel and stock to be made for my 260 Remington savage project, I’m slowly getting items needed. I’ve been reading up on powders used for 260. I’m a lil surprised of some powders commonly used. I figured it would be similar to loading 308. I was hoping varget would be a good place to start because I have plenty of it. I also read of people using Reloader 22? I wouldn’t have guessed that! I do have a good bit of that also. I have H4895, IMR 4350/4064. The barrel will be 24” 1:8 twist with deep throat to camber vld bullets, hopefully 140-150 grain. Any one of you have loads in these powders you care to share? Thanks!

I have had good results with just about everything I've used Varget for. My loads probably won't help you, as my .260 is a M77 Compact with 16" pencil barrel. It seems to like loads around the middle of published data from Hornady and Hogdgon. I can't think of a single cartridge I've had to push to the edge of velocity to squeeze out the best accuracy (with Varget).

I have also had good luck with H4895 in my .308 family cases.

I've had good luck with Varget and the 260R. I was shooting the 130gr HPBT-GK. These were the new GK from Serria and they shot very well, < 1moa @ 100 yrds. Have not tried anything heavier than the 123's. These were shot from a old Rem Model 7, 1:9 twist, with a syn stock.

I used 41 gr. Varget with the Sierra 85 gr. HP. I rely on IMR 4831 for most loads. IMR 7828, RL-15, 2400, A5744, and Unique round out the rest. After Varget disappeared for several years I moved on to other powders.

Maybe with bullets on the lighter end of the spectrum. If you're going 130's or heavier there are better choices. H4350 is THE powder for the heavier bullets in both 260 and 6.5 Creedmoor. So much so that it is getting near impossible to find powder.

I was reading about this issue on another forum a few weeks ago and some guys were highly recommending IMR4451 as a substitute for H4350 if it cannot be found. Of the powders you have IMR4350 would be my top choice with the bullets you want to use.

My best loads for my .260 are with RL22.
My second favorite is RL17, with H4350 and IMR4350 considered equal.
The .260 is much more like the .243 than it is the .308. It shows in its powder preferences.
