Hey y'all I'm new here! Hope this is the right place to post this but looking for a LH bolt for my dads old 788 .308 to surprise him. He lost it about twenty years ago and have up all hope and it was the first gun my grandpa ever bought him if not the only gun. I was on fb on the model 700 group and some guy posted a picture of a thread on here about 8 months ago with a guy that had one, think his name is "DM"? If anybody knows him or has a bolt and can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated!

Any pics or does it need anything and is it the whole assembly? Any idea in price? Don't have a lot of money but it would mean the world to
Me if I could fix it up for my dad..

i had a real nice 98 mauser in 8mm that had no bolt when i bought it and found a replacement at a gun show, i reloaded a shell right at the top of a reloading manual and strapped it to a old tire and fired it with a string, no problem. that was 40 years ago. today i would take it to a gunsmith with headspace gauges and have it checked with go- no go gauges. my money is on the bolt being ok,but it pays to have it checked. eastbank.

Thanks guys I'll have to look into that. What all is done when you are checking headspace? That just to make sure it's closed and seated all the way?

You should be checking the space between the case and the bolt head when the cartridge is fully seated in the chamber. You do not want zero space but you also do not want a large enough gap that the primer and base of the cartridge are not supported.
