Issue at the Range with xd.

Disclaimer: I would first and foremost like to say that this was not at fault of the gun, but the rds being fired.

I was shooting several rds that my dad had reloaded for me which included rainier 165gr bullets with 7.0gr of unique as well as 6.5 of the same. I loaded up my mags with some that had been loaded with the wnchester 231 powder, 6.1gr. as i was doing "controled pair" drills. I fired two rds in the chest and went for a headshot and there was a click, so going off my trainning I racked the slide and started to fire again, another click, same thing again. So then I looked down at the slide and the slide was out of battery. So after dissassembly i discovered that there was a rd half way down the barrel just sitting in there. Damn it!

Easy fix though i came straight home and removed the stuck rd and there seems to be no problems with any other part. I am just glad that the pistol didn't go into battery, and fire another rd i would've been FUBAR, and my gun too. The biggest bummer was that i took 250rds and only got to shoot 100 but hey that's what next week is for i guess!

So question: everything looks ok, there dosen't seem to be any bulges, looking down the barrel everything seems like normal. So Is my barrel and pistol alright? Is there anything else i should do to ensure that it good to go? I have never experinced anything like this before. i have had a piece of brass stuck in my ak, but no a bullet in the barrel. any suggestions? thanks guys!

if the bullet didn't have enough power to make it all the way down the barrel then it didn't have enough power to damage anything is what I would think.

If it was my handgun I wouldn't worry about it.

If you are not completely certain about the integrity of your XD, I suggest that you have a qualified gunsmith examine it. You will probably have to send it to Springfield Armory.

That could have been a nasty kaboom.

It's just a squib round, I don't think anything would be damaged by that. As long as the rifling in your barrel wasn't damaged during the punching process you should be G2G.

If you'd had a kaboom, it would have provided us with some nice insight into how the XD holds up in such an event, but I'm glad that you didn't kaboom yourself.

Joke well taken my friend! That would have probally been a first on this forum an in depth review of an xd kabooom! I would have had to go all out with pics and all!

Whenever shooting reloads or surplus ammo forget your "training"!!!!

You were a fraction of an inch away from a KaBoom! disaster if the squib had pushed the bullet just enough further down the bore to let the next round go into battery. Be very thankful these reloads had enough crimp to have kept the next round from having enough setback to let it chamber and fire.

Odds are there are more squibs in that batch of reloads.

once again thank you for your help and guidence you are on the ball today! I figured there might be a few more problems out of that batch so i will be sure to put the "trainning" on hold, and be sure and take a dow rd next time incase it ever happens again! i only have about 100rds of those reloads left 50 of the win 231 and 50 with power pistol powder which have done really good for me in the past. thanks again wally!

The same thing happened to my buddy a few week's ago. He was not so lucky. We had to take his in cause the ejector's broke off. Too bad!
