Issue With Corbon DPX Ammo

UPS picked up the box today. We'll see what happens next. I'll continue to update as I get more info from Cor-bon.

Moxie,
I understand what you're saying but I expect a major manufacturer of ammo to have stringent quality controls in place. I should not have to validate basic QC practices as a consumer, especially considering the price of their ammo. I'm hoping that Cor-bon will share some of their failure analysis data with me, but I will not hold my breath. I've been one of their customers for quite some time. How well they respond to this incident will determine whether they retain me as a loyal customer or not.

No, they don't. You don't get the same pressure spikes in bottleneck cases. And, the seating procedure mentioned is only used with rifles.
None of this applies to your problem.

Added: let us know what Corbon does. They will likely replace tge ammo but won't share data due to liability concerns.

General principles of pressure and volume of expanding gases is what I'm referring to.

Lack of proper crimp can cause erratic performance and high ES and SD values, but it doesn't cause squibs on its own. Additional problems need to be present for that to happen.

reloading the barnes TAC-X 123 grain

I have read the problem with set back with the corbon DPX. I believe the Barnes 123 gr TAC-X Bt bullet is what is used in the corbon DPX round. I just purchased a small quantity of the Barnes tac-x and was looking at it prior to trying to reload with it. The barnes bullet while intended for the 7.62x39 has what appears to be a glaring defect. It has two grooves which are meant for displacement of copper during the engraving of the bullet by the rifling of the barrel. The foremost groove is not in the right place for crimping the case. It looks like one will have to rely on a lot of neck tension or set the bullet further out to use forward groove for crimping. I will do that to one of them and see how it fits in a magazine and also how it chambers in my rifles. In a bolt gun there would be no problem with this bullet.

I have also not found any data for this particularly long bullet that pushes about 3/16 of an inch into case past the neck. Since the only suitable powder that I happen to have is AA2230 I will use some data that I have found for the 150 grain wt with the 123 copper bullet.
