I went in my range bag last night and pulled out one of my 5 round poly mags for my recently bought Gunsite Scout.

Topped the mag off, went to put it away and it got turned upside down. 3 of the 5 rounds just popped right out. It won't retain more than 2 rounds reliably now. My other mag does not seem to have this problem.

Has anyone else encountered this? I find this unacceptable for a brand new $45 magazine. Both mags have probably seen less than 100 rounds each.

Got through to Ruger, and just received my replacement mag (no return request for the bad mag).....a ten round steel mag. I bought the two 5 round poly mags to replace the ten rounder that came with the rifle. I have no use for the ten rounder.

I have just contacted them again, hoping for an exchange.

Has anyone used the 5 round steel mags? I just noticed them perusing shopruger.com after emailing them.

Also, I've read internet rumors of Magpul making mags for the GSR...any info on that?

Just got a response from Ruger. They are sending me a 5 round poly mag replacement, their mistake on the 10 rounder. They told me to keep the 10 rounder :D. That's customer service right there.

Still curious about the steel 5 round mags, as my faith in the poly magazines has taken a hit.

If you go to the ruger website and look at the mags for sale and read the reviews you will see lots of bad feedback on the mags for the GSR and the american rifle. Ruger seems to have a magazine problem right now. scroll down and read some of the reviews. I would like to get an American rifle in 243 but the magazine problems are making me hesitate on the purchase.

Ratshooter, I believe you're right. A buddy has an American in .30-06 with magazine issues as well.

Did they just start making these molded magazines? Or possibly changed contractors?

The poly mags for the rugers are a few years old now. acurate mag made the original steel ones but no idea who makes the plastic ones but the good news is any aics style mag in your calibre should fit fine magpull even makes aics style mags now
