So I haven't used my gun in about 3 months, have been carrying it with me. Went shooting today and noticed that there was almost a rust on the barrel. I use FP-10 to clean it with no real result. Pic is of what is on my barrel.
Gun is less than a year old and has maybe 500 rounds fired. I clean my gun every time I use it. Any ideas on why this happened and how to resolve it. Thanks guys.

What kind of gun?

Where do you live? Is it a wet climate, dry climate?

EDIT= You carry this gun? Is it really hot where you live? Did you perhaps sweat on the gun? Human sweat can be horrible on a gun that isn't lubed properly...

Did you shoot old milsurp ammunition? Was it corrosive?

And ditch the FP-10 and buy some Break Free. It will take off that rust. :)

You carry it as a CCW? Do you wipe it down with oil every night/every other night? Often times sweat can cause rust in carry pieces that are otherwise well taken care of. How do you carry?

Compact 1911 and yes, I CCW. I have one of those ****ty plastic inside the waist holster so most likely it is human sweat.

I havent been wiping my gun down as much as I used to, might need to get into the habit of doing it more often.

Looks like a Kimber barrel. I carry a kimber and in a very humid climite and have no problem with your rust problem. Why? I use a gun grease on the barrel instead of oil that evaperates over time. I only run a patch through the barrel about once a week and about once a month field strip it, wipe it down and reoil the moving parts. Grease the rails and barrel and reassemble. I wipe the outside using an old t-shirt lightly saturated with ATF just before I go to bed (daily). It has become a ritual around here.

You can use some very fine steel wool (dry) and twist the barrel in the wool then clean and relube it. I doubt that you will be able to remove it all and be able to maintain the integredy of barrel (accuracy). But you may have learned a good lesson none the less.

By The Way...I carry every day all day long...
