i just bought two wilson combat 47d magazines and i took them to the range to give them a try.
i had several problems with them.
the slide kept locking back as if the magazine was empty
and the slide wouldnt go fully into battery
both magazines did the same thing
none of my other magazines had issues
just wondering if anyone else has had problems like this
also anyone have any experience with wilson combat etm magazines

Take the WC mags back or send them back and use the mags that already work. Just because they say Wilson Combat on them doesn't mean they put the same care and quality they do in their custom 1911's.

Wow Todd have you used 47ds? I think they set the standard for 1911 magazines. However if there truly is a problem with the mags Wilson will make it right.

I stopped using Wilson magazines for serious purpose some years ago. I think I still have a couple left in a box of discard magazines somewhere. (Funny how the only type of pistol magazine for which I ended up having a couple of boxes of unsatisfactory 'discards' over the years was the 1911, huh? :neener: )

I used to have a fair number of them. I've found other magazines which function in my 1911's with a wide range of ammunition and satisfy my needs.

I know a few other instructors who also no longer use Wilson 47D's anymore, either, but also a couple who do. Different strokes. Different experiences.

That's just me and my experience, though, and it pays to try and diagnose what's actually happening in your own situation. If you were using good quality factory ammunition which worked well at the same time when using it in other magazines in the same gun, and you were doing your part, then it might indicate the issue you encountered was magazine related.

FWIW, I have no experience with Wilson's latest magazine design, but I also have no desire to try it, either, if only because I've found at least 3 other magazine offerings which are working fine for my needs.

I suggest calling Wilson Combat and discussing your problem with them direct over the phone. They are a great bunch of people to work with and do business with. They will do their part to make it right with you. Bill Wilson is a member hear so don't be surprised to hear from him either.

I've had great luck with 47D's but the springs could be a little more robust.

fixed it for you :)

i have used the Wilson 47D and at one time they were indeed the standard by which other 1911 mags were judged. Wilson has done very well in their marketing to continue that perception.

the 47D was surpassed by by the Chip McCormick PowerMag quite a while ago...that's why Wilson introduced his new "ETM"

i think the best 1911 mags on the market today are the McCormick PowerMag and the Tripp CobraMag. i remember reading an article by Hilton Yam where he proposed that the "ultimate mag" might be the CobraMag follower/spring in the PowerMag body

I had the same problem a few weeks ago with mine as well.

My solution is to never use it again.

Funny how the 47D's were all the rage 5 years ago. Accounts of "if it won't run, pop in a Wilson and she'll be fine" and other such nonsense.

They're decent mags, but CMC Powermags and Powermag Plus' work better for me in my Les Baer. YMMV.

You didn't even mention what type of gun you're running and it's condition. I've seen Many Kimbers (MIMbers) with improperly contoured slide stops causing the same problems, not the mags.

To all the folks who say they will never use their 47Ds again PM me and I will give you my delivery address and some money for S&H.

Thats funny, I just bought a couple of WC mags, and they fixed my Mimber:neener:

My issue was early slide lock with the Kimber factory mag. Wilson mags fixed my problem. I'm sure they will send you some replacements if you call.:)

ill be giving them a call tomarrow and im sure they will take care of everything
just to fill in some info i have a sig arms gsr 1911 and i didnt have any problems with my other magazines and i was shooting american eagle 230gr. fmj

I have not had any problems with my 47d's, however, several seasons ago, one of the the other competitors picked up both his mag's and mine. When I confronted him, he gave me 4 Wilsons and promptly left, never to return to our league. When I got home, I realized he had kept my perfectly maintained 47D's and given me his trashed ones. I called Wilson and Bill Wilson picked up the call. He was gracious and generous. After commiserating, he sent out 4 rebuild kits, no charge.

I've been using 47d's for a long time and have never had a problem. I do know some 1911s can get cranky though. While my S&W 1911 works perfectly with 47d's and CMC powermags, it won't run for spit with Tripp's...
