"It" being a used Springfield Armory M1911-A1 in .45 ACP. This is my first 1911. Where the heck is the cylinder?
I went to Surplus City this afternoon and they had the Springer, recently acquired in trade. It's parkerized, has Pachymar grips, a stainless flat mainspring housing, AL trigger, full length guide rod, beavertail grip safety, Novaks, two mags, and the original plastic case with cleaning brush.
With the exceptions of the grips, ambi safety, and a slightly different hammer, it looks like the gun pictured here.
I'd rate it NRA VG+ overall. The parkerizing shows some wear on the edges and the left side thumbswell on the grips looks like it was sanded off.
I need to figure out how to field strip it with the full length guide rod, which has a hex screw in the end. I don't know if it's OEM or aftermarket. Also, after I determine it's reliable, I plan to add an ambidextrous safety, since I'm left handed. I may also swap the Pachs for Colt rosewood grip panels, which I see CDNN had for about $20.
Price was $450 OTD, which I feel was reasonable. Hopefully, I'll get to shoot it tomorrow.
