It is ALIVE! New semi .50

Dr. Rob, the webpage is kind of confusing, but there are a couple of different guns on that page. A single shot, and a side mounted box fed semi.

Now I saw the semi at SHOT, I believe it was a prototype in .50 Spotter. I was hugely impressed. The design seemed really solid, and I'm curious to know how well it works. If the initial reviews are good (I'm a little worried about how it is going to hold up at that weight) but if it is durable enough, then I'm probably going to get myself one. This is a semi 50 that could actually be carried somewhere, as opposed to driven to the range, and lugged to the bench. :) (which is all of the other .50s I've used).

Just a cursory look but that gas tube looks too small to contain a piston and it's not an op-rod... so how does it work?

It is a single shot

DR.ROB, from what the pic disclosed,it appears(?) the tube you refer to is actually a stiffener rod; solid in construction to provide support to the obviously heavy(!) barrel. Awhile back I ran across some interesting rifles chambered in 50BMG that used a 20" barrel and were traditional bolt rifles that looked like a club, not a rifle.

Hey I shot that once, it is an awesome gun. The guy who designed it and was testing the prototype at the range said it would be 3500 though. I beleive he was at SHOT a few weeks prior.

It does contain a piston in the gas tube because I watched him disassemble it. The gun is very light and has amazingly light recoil. A very well built gun. It has recoil about 80 percent as much as a Saiga 12 firing magnum loads of buck.

Welcome to THR, DC. :)

As Correia said, there are two systems:
one is a bolt action;
one is a semi.

If I had a few extra thousand, I think I'd pick up the bolt in 24" length; if I had lots of discretionary income, I'd get the semi but request a 24" barrel.

Why would anyone ever touch off a .50 BMG in a 21 inch barrel?

Because it's America! Because we're free to! Well, for a while at least. :rolleyes:
