It seems that people are waking up. I just got back from Cabelas where you would have thought they were having a fire sale. It was PACKED. People were talking, one person was giving what could best be described as a speech about the second amendment and one guy was talking about how "they" weren't going to tell him what to do. He was purchasing an AR. Lots of people were talking about legislative action that would protect our right and how Feinstein is a (not High Road Material, fill in the blank). Some people were talking about protests if they do pass the law. My local gun store is sold out of firearms, uppers, stripped lowers, and magazines. On another note, Cabelas raised their price on H4895. It was $25, now it is $29. I couldn't bring myself to pay that for it.

I was pretty upset last night. I was at cabelas, I go every couple of days anyway. So, I was there and figured I would pick up some primers...

Some guy had a reloading kit and every LG and SM pistol primer in his cart.

I confronted him and said "look, I know your scared but do you think I could grab a box of those primers....." He said sure, it would be weeks before he would learn how to reload anyway.

Give me a break. I need to get one pound of powder than I will have what is typically two years worth of materials on hand for me.

If by "waking up", you mean "panic buying everything in sight because they heard there was a chance they might not be able to buy an item that they obviously weren't that interested in previously", then I guess so.

Quick! Buy Bucky Balls and Twinkies before they are all gone!!!

YEah, that is what ticked me of Jorg... The guy has never reloaded before but decided he needed every single primer in stock.

Actually, all this panic buying is a sign of defeatism. People wouldn't be doing this unless they thought there was a good chance that restrictions (or worse) would be enacted. Maybe instead of stockpiling guns, ammo, etc., people should put all that money and energy into mobilizing to defeat the proposals. Not to be a scold, but if you were really into guns, you should have bought what you needed/wanted literally years ago. It's the newbies that are suddenly waking up now.

All the Twinkies are already gone, Jorg - have been in my area anyway, for at least a week and a half or longer.

I bought a BIG pack of TP this grocery trip though... you never know, and TP will be a HUGE trading commodity if things REALLY get bad. Someday I'll be showing my great grandkids "Papa's 1911" and telling them the story of how I traded a roll of toilet paper for it back in the "great war of 2013" lol

I think a lot of it is also investment buying. I'm sure many of you remember prices for pre-ban stuff during the last ban. Do you remember muttering to yourself "If only I had bought a bunch of this before the ban, I could make a lot of money"?

The owner of a gun store in Houston was interviewed on local TV. He said that he may need to close his store soon. His stock has been totally wiped out and there was nothing left to sell!

Let the newbies keep buying. Heck, let them convince more newbies to buy.

To you, these panic buying sprees are an inconvenience. To them it's critical. Think about it...The more people there are with plenty to lose in the upcoming gun rights struggle, the harder they might be inclined to fight.

I'm not saying to misinform or deceive them. But you never awake faster than when a bucket of ice water hits you in the face.

the more people have them, the harder they'll be to get rid of. don't forget the HELLER decision hinged on weapons in common usage. I haven't seen anybody shoot a shotgun in at least a year, so i don't know if the hunters are safe, but everybody has an AR15.

Yesterday I stopped by local Dick's wanted to buy myself a plinker 22LR, there were no customers at the hunting lodge, so I thought it wouldn't take long, but when they tried to run background check, fed line was busy. So I was there for 3 hours and line was still busy. So today I stopped again and no luck getting through.... Its just so frustrating, I wasted so much time and still nothing... I would say Gun control is in action, if store can't get clearance on criminal record they can't sell...

Heck, yeah! Mo' common is mo' bettah!

The unanticipated consequences of the Left's immediate call to action may be that it drives new ownership through the roof, so to speak.

I just got back from TWO local shops, and their racks are EMPTY! I found the old timer who own the store and he said "We haven't had the shelves this empty in 40 years."

If there's a silver lineing to all of this impending constitution-stomping, it's that some local businessess are getting a much needed bump in sales. It's a Christmas Miracle!

I've got 3 Magpul 30 round mags right now. Maybe its time to do some trading and pick up a heap of 10-20 round mags that are actually usable with my scoped AR and bipod. ;)

I went with one of my office buddies to buy an AR yesterday. At Larry's, I think I counted 6 AK pattern rifles, maybe 20 ARs (if that) and one M1 carbine among a few other EBRs thrown in.

The only ammo out on the floor was Hornady and some Federal. He bought the last two 30 rd aluminum mags, but there were several 20 rd PMags available. Turned out they had plenty of 30 rd polymers as well, but behind the counter. I think you had to buy a rifle to be able to buy the mags.

that's weird, in my neck of the woods racks are full, but they can't sell anything, on the other hand didn't see any AR-15, but still m-14, m-1 and ak variants, I even saw pps-43 :)

IT started on Saturday for us at the gun shop I work at. One of my co-workers has been working there for 20 years and said that this has been the busiest he's ever seen it over the past week. Our shop looks bare and we were fully stocked on Friday the 14th. We sold all of our semi-auto rifles within days and most of our semi-auto pistols, all of our hi-cap mags are gone.

The worst part is that all of our distributors are completely out of stock on just about everything so we can't re-stock the shop.

All AR's and AR related accessories and ammo are SOLD OUT completely in San Antonio and surrounding areas. I still have friends trying to buy one and getting nowhere.

Ironically, all this gun controversy is seriously boosting the economy. :p

This is very intersting position...very intersting and probably 100% valid. I am starting to see a little more constructive conversation going on. I like this idea. I have everything I want right now...I mean I always want more ammo but I have quite a bit already so I'm not hurting. More new gun owners is more votes.

You'd think Barry was FOR guns, wouldn't ya? He should know all he has to do is suggest a ban and everybody who can scrape up a dollar will go nuts buying everything they can. Our mailman just bought an AR last night. I watched the water tower on the way to work this morning and didn't see him up there, but when I asked, he told me he hadn't had the time, yet... It makes me wonder, how can you control the sale of guns when there aren't any for sale??

On a side note, I keep wondering if I should have stocked up on anything, but the ammo boxes along my bedroom wall keep getting in the way as it is. When I think back on when I bought all the ammo, uhm, it was the end of 2008. Hmmm... It was MUCH less than $899/1000, also. I feel bad for those missing out at this time, but it's good to know there are empty shelves, meaning, there are a TON of folks not willing to give up their new toys. Empty shelves equals lots of gun owners equals lots of voices in our favor.

went to my lgs day before yesterday to get some pistol primers, im not hoarding them but when i get down to 1000 i pick up another box. i was in line for over an hour and then had to show the guy who was not a regular that indeed they had them, price 2 bucks more as all they hadwere the match primers.
the black rifls were flying out of there tho.
