It is that dove hunting time of year, again!

To combat I am running improved modified and light full chokes.
[

I have a turkey super full choke, but I'm thinking that would be far too tight of a group for me to be hitting birds. I'd rather let them come into about 40 yards and hit them with my modified choke. I'm shooting #8 1 1/4 oz loads.

Well, I made it to Waco to open the season Friday, after all. :D We did good opening morning, shot 23 between the 3 of us, but it was down hill from there. We got a few here, a few there after that. I did get a white wing which is always a bonus. :D

My eyes are bad, but if I could see the bird in range, I could kill it. My new CZ Redhead Delux fits me so well it pretty much points itself. :D I really like it. Molly, my Lab, was working as well as ever and minimized the lost birds. Main thing is, we had a good time. :D

Regards to choke, I find I/C most appropriate, especially if you're using a mojo. I choke my doubles mod/IC and usually pull the I/C first. I've always choked single barrel repeaters with modified. I shoot 20 gauge now days, 7.5 shot 7/8 ounce seems to pattern best.

No mojo here, just poor boy huntin' on a bucket lol. Saw more birds today than any other day so far. I guess I should say I scared more birds away than any other day so far. We saw a group of 14 birds fly off as we walked up to the field and another group of a dozen or more on the power lines. Then the wind happened and We ended up going home. Only 2 birds today and yet another lost to the long grass.

MC, glad to hear you made it to Waco!

Thanks. Yeah, it just fell together. Flooding went down in the Colorado faster than I'd figured on, so I got through La Grange okay.

My buddy's boy was the first to buy a mojo. They ain't that expensive and it only takes one. I was so impressed with how well it worked that I bought one for myself. If you get one, get the battery powered one, don't mess with the wind powered one.

You know, I've yet to buy a duck mojo. Traditionalist when it comes to los patos, I guess. :D Well, part of it is where I hunt. I have to haul enough stuff through the mud on foot as it is. I carry inflatable carrylites to reduce weight, have shotgun, have ammo, have marsh chair. That's enough.

Mojos used to work good on ducks especially early season teal and wood ducks. A mojo and a woodie or teal call would make them turn and come across the lake.
About 7-8 years ago it seemed they all started to ignore them. All the migrators had seen them hundreds of times while flying south.
