For a reason that I still don't understand, I bought this gun. I took it out to the range after putting a Red Dot on it and I gotta say that at 50yards this thing is spot on. I was completely impressed with its performance. I know its not a popular gun but share your thoughts. Anyone impressed with this cheap carbine like I am?

I've got one, and love it. Considering the other pistol caliber carbines, the Hi Point is the best thing out there dollar for dollar (not based on fact, my opinion only).

Sure, what's there not to like? Inexpensive, it works, cheap to feed, wrings another 100fps or so out of a 9mm, and has a lifetime warranty.

My HP 4595 has turned out to be a fun range gun, for tin cans and other reactive targets. I knew very little about them when I picked this one up on line last winter. I was a bit surprised at how robust a weapon it is, and so far I've had one failure to feed (last round in the mag) in 600 rounds. I've started to reload for it and I think I can do a lot better than factory ammo accuracy with it. The recoil device in the butt makes it more fun to shoot, my daughter likes it too.
The high point forum (independent... not a factory forum) is a good place to get info on them.

What kind of sights do y'all have on yours. I've taken the irons off mine, because of my eyes. I've tried several optics but have settled on an older Bushnell Red Dot (tube style).

Yes. I have a 4095 carbine in .40 S&W, and bought a 995 carbine in 9mm for my grandson. Both are outstanding fun plinkers. Very accurate and reliable.

I took off the iron sights and put on a fixed 4x40 scope. I may eventually go to the red dot, as I'm not 100% sold on the 4x magnification. Iron sights were ok, but I prefer a larger rear aperture. I always seem to lose my target with ghost ring sights.

Yes! I got mine like you, on a weird whimsy. Put mine in an ATI stock and recently added a red-dot reflex sight. Lots of fun, and reliable and accurate enough to grab if I really needed something more than a pistol. My 15 round Promags even work well.

Don't listen to the naysayers- Hi-Points utilize acceptable materials and designs and are designed for exactly what you are doing. No one is saying they are great guns, but to write them off completely is snobbery. They are safe and effective and designed to plink. It's like complaining about not being served lobster at a pizza party.
The 9mm and .40 carbines aren't as cheap as the pistols so I don't know that I would go for one, but a $150 .45 seems like an awful lot of fun. No guilt about putting that one back in the safe dirty : )

They are great for under $200.

Try to tell that to everyone selling them for 250+ these days.

If they had larger mag capacity I would have a couple.

An inexpensive, functional, pistol-caliber rifle that is butt-ugly, has limited magazine capacity, and is horrible to disassemble.

If that fits your requirements, you're good to go.

I'd rather have a 10/22 for a plinker.
I'd rather have an AK for a defensive carbine.

I took the 4595 model my son just bought to the range today with some of my reloads. The iron sights are OK, but the cheap BSA red dot that came with it - once it was dialed in - made it really easy to put 5 rounds touching centered at 25 yds. He is thinking of selling it, so I think I'll just get it from him. It's not fancy, definitely not pretty, but it's sure a lot of fun to shoot.

I realize its not a great home defense gun or a super power but after the high capacity mags, laser, muzzle break and red dot I put on there, this thing is fricking amazing. The tear down was alot simpler than I thought and accuracy was second to none. Great gun for the Buck.

Expect trouble from the aftermarket high-cap magazines, I've read nothing good about them. You're better off with several of the 10-rd. factory mags.

And don't discount it as a home-defense weapon. It's light, short, handy, and it'll put a magful of bullet holes right where you want them without hesitation. The longer barrel tends to increase the velocity of the round just a tad too. I'd use my 4095 for h/d in a heartbeat, if I didn't have a 1911 and M1 Carbine in line ahead of it.

I have two. One with the original stock, the other with the after market stock. Both go "bang" every time I pull the trigger. No problems with either one of them.

Have one in 40cal, reliable, accurate, fun. Use a red dot most of the time however recently tried a 4-12x44 scope to check accuracy at 100 yards, with good results.

My .40 was accurate and reliable w/ a cheap 4x scope on the factory 'mount'. What's not to love?

They are a neat concept, but lack a little in the execution. They could have made them easier to disassemble, and they certainly could have made them more durable. They tend to wear out in 3 to 4 thousand rounds. Do a little Google fu and you can find plenty about them wearing out with pictures included.

I had one....a TS995, and I was more than pleased with it, but I gave it to a good friend that has Cancer, and cannot hold up heavier guns for any length of time. The light weight and light recoil enable him to have a good time with no pain or strain.

They are good for plinking and nothing else. Nothing wrong with that but it would be my last choice for home defense and I'd sooner take a daisy red rider to war.

I took mine out last weekend for some live fire run and gun drills. I held my own against the ARs, the SKS, the Rem700 and the Ruger 10/22.
I'll be changing the scope to a red dot reflex, but yeah, it's my HD gun. It's lightweight, well balanced, easy follow up shots.

Rumor has it HP will be producing 15 round mags, but I'm not holding my breath.
