Hi All I'm thinking of purchasing a Strider Spaniard. See attached picture.

I hear Strider makes a good strong knife and the design of this fighter seems very effective.

Does anyone have info or experience with this knife?

Not with that specific model but I have a couple of Striders. Probably the best production fixed blades for what they're meant IMO. Maybe a little over priced, but hey, supply and demand.

I've had three Strider Fixed and three Strider folders and I love 'em. They are definitely the toughest knives I've owned.

I've never owned the Spaniard, but I'm sure it's the same Strider quality.

Strider knives are ugly ducklings but are one bad A$$ knife. I have owned several Strider's over the years in both fixed blade and folders. One of my remaining Strider's is a GB with a S30v blade which I had souped up with micarta scales and titanium bolsters. I have used my knife for just about everything from chopping, prying, bush clearing, work in and near water, pounding just about every thing which one should not do with a folder. Other than a ding here and some rust there my knife has performed better than I could have expected. I would trust this knife with my life.

Also, Mick and Duane AKA 'the Strider Guys', stand behind their product 100%. I would gladly purchase another Strider, but my darn GB will not stop working.

I highly recommend Strider Knives.

Here's a picture of my two remaining Strider's (top is a SMF and bottom is a GB) along with my custom Tim Galyean Junk Yard Dawg.

Nice SMF bro :) shoulda kept mine , sold it to someone in AZ

Yup Mick & crew stand behind their work. I believe the Spaniard is a custom which is why it is priced higher than the others.

Yeah I got a few ( though the trio of MFS's belong to my 3 sons ( 3 , 6 , 13 ) given to them by Mick,Duane and Josh for Christmas 2005 :D

Braggart! :p

At the Vegas Knife Show I scored a sterile SnG - no markings at all. I could find no info on the 'net about it so the next day went to the Strider table and asked Josh about it. He would not tell me why they made them but said they would be valuable and they got back all they could - it was not supposed to be "in public". I asked if they wanted to trade for it and they gave me a regular SnG, a Lifter sheath and a t-shirt. He reminded me again that this knife was going to be worth money, and I said "Man I can't pay $450 for a knife and wait for it to be worth more!" :) If they wanted it back that was good enough for me - I need a user!

At least I took some pics:

Oh yea, I have a recurve SMF and MTL-SS also. :)

Thanks for all of your responses. They were very helpful. So helpful that I went and ordered it!

The only proviso is that to get my better half to go along with a $475 knife purchase, this must count as my Christmas present, so I can't touch it until then...

I did get to check it out when delivered, just to make sure there were no defects of course:evil:

Wow! This is one bad a## blade. Strider sure packed a lot of knife in a 7-8” blade that is truly “razor” sharp. It balances just ahead of the guard and feels very fast and with the amount of curvature on the blade, I can’t wait to try some tameshigiri cutting with this….after Christmas.

This will make one nice carry fixed blade.

I will do a complete review with pics asap.

You cant go wrong with either of them. I know Matt , have met him many times , not only can he grind a smokin blade he is a cool as heck guy ( and a serious gearhead as well ).

I have no complaints on my Striders. You arent comparing the same thing. One is a fixed blade and one is a folder.

Thats the best thing about the world of customs , so many great makers to choose from , there is something for everyone...and I need more :)

I LOVE STRIDERS
here are some of mine
To each his own I guess...
I'm a 1911 kinda guy, I also dig fine things..but I dig things that WON'T let me down!

But, like Mick says: There's an Ass for every seat.
That being said, so we don't TOTALLY hijack this gentleman's thread, that Strider there is a SPANIARD, It's made out of 1/4" S30V, it has VERY comfortable G-10 handles which are textured with grooves
As with EVERY Strider knife it comes with the Unbeatable, unconditional warranty..LIFETIME..it follows the knife NOT the owner!
I believe a few are still available..and yes they are serial numbered/limited run

nice one.... since it aint a safe , do we call em " case queens ?".....

Hey B , I got my SnG on Thursday and it has already been used to cut a ton of stuff....and now it smells like antifreeze from cutting off that radiator hose :)

I haven't had to use any yet :neener:
I have my Strider rotation which gets used when I need em..
I usually carry one or more of the following: STRIDER SMF, STRIDER DWYER CUSTOM DAL, STRIDER WP RECURVE W/ G-10, STRIDER EBLS

call em whatever you want dude..I just call em MINE ;)

Wow Boats, you have some very nice knives!

Unfortunately they don't have near enough "mall ninja factor" for my needs.

Here is my EDC folding knife. It's a Darrel Ralph AXD 4" assisted opener.

While it has sufficient mall ninja factor (16.37%) for most days I find that on some occasions I require at least a full 36% in fixed blade format to keep me from drifting into pedantic commentary.

How's your RDA:neener:

too each his own. I dont feel the stripes are dumb , and apparently neither do allot of makers & knife companies seeing as they are all jumping on the bandwagon and using them.

I have Striders without Stripes , with , satin , beadblast.

I would rather carry anything other than a DDR :uhoh:

I know alot of people like the stripes, they have become VERY popular in recent years. For deployed Military use I'd have no real problem with them. For some reason though, they strike me odd on alot of folders, etc. Even though they are a Strider style trademark, I think many Strider models would be very cool to have with a stonewashed, or satin finish. Things like that Spaniard, the SMF folder, and I'd really like a polished BT for one reason or another.

I thought about doing a 1200 grit hand satin on my SnG just to tease Mick at a show , maybe for Vegas.

I find on a user I dont really care what the blade finish is , I am gonna scar it up anyways. On a polished blade the marks show allot faster than say on a blasted or in this case a Strider striped blade.

I found that to be very true when I had a regular SMF. It didn't show much wear for the beatings it took. I did manage to "smear" the striping though during some spirited drywall and roofing work but regular chores didn't mar it as much as a satin finished Emerson Commander that looked like hell after a year of similar tasks. I think my ideal folder would probably be something SMF sized, but with a tanto point and a polished finish. I think that folder would look really nice in that setup. I was debating trying my hand a shining up my SMF but a friend of mine traded for it and I never got the chance.

I can take or leave the stripes. As mentioned they seem to be a Strider hallmark but I tend to use my knives and eventually this will be a bit scarred up. From what I have read and my brief chance at inspection, this seems to be a very solid knife. The kydex Blade Tech came with an on the belt attachment system and an IWB conversion hardware. If carried this will be IWB 90% of the time.
