What were the best years of production for featherlights? I'm looking for a sort of all around 12 gauge that'll last a lifetime.

Yes , buy the ones being made now in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and you will have the best of the best. I have 6 Ithaca 37s, 4 for hunting and 2 short barrel ones for home defense -all made during the 50s and 60s. They are great guns , light, simple, with few parts, a smooth action, and very reliable. And a joy to carry in the field.

+1 on the Ohio guns if I were looking to buy a standard bird hunting or especially a deer slug gun. -1 if I were looking for a trench gun... Damn I wish they re-did the trench gun (only with a 3" chamber, bayonet lug, heat shield and all). I would be customer #1.

Easier to tell you which ones Not to buy. The serial #s below (800000 I think!) don't have interchangeable barrels. The ones made after about 1988 until the current Ohio production are pretty rough.
