A person I work with is selling a used Ithaca 37. The finish is extremely worn down. Someone has also done a pretty amateur job of mounting a rail to the top of the receiver for a scope. Otherwise it’s mechanically sound.
I live in a shotgun only zone so I’m looking for a gun to take out hunting deer hunting.

What do you think of the Ithaca 37 as a slug gun?
What do you think a reasonable price would be?
How difficult is it to change out the barrels on an Ithaca 37 to use a rifled barrel?

I have an Ithica Model 37. It is a great gun and I like the bottom eject cuz in bad weather it stays dry and clean. But it is a bear!! to disassemble to clean. To get the bolt out you must remove the butt pad, take off the stock, pull out the trigger group, then slide a pin over with a flat blade screwdriver to get the bolt carrier out. For my money I love my Remington 870. Easy to clean and reliable but side eject. Second on my list is my Mossberg 500. A little more to take apart but nothing like the Ithica. Both are real easy barrel changes too. If my wife's father hadn't given me the Ithica I would sell it.

I have two Ithaca M37's, a 12 and a 20. They are built like tanks and the actions are smooth as silk. What is he asking for it?

The barrels are very easy to change.

If you can find an old Ithaca DeerSlayer barrel with the rifled barrel they are fantastic Deer shotguns.

I have a friend that had one for years. Very reliable and well made. Kicks like a mule, and I hunt with an 870 with 3" slugs.
