I Am Trying To Find The Value Of A Model 37. It Has A Serial # 53xxx. It Is All Original. Probably 90%. It Has Matching Serial Number On Barrel That Has A Vent Rib With 3 Beads. Left Side Of Barrel Has A P Next To The Receiver. The Upper Left Side Of Reciever Has A Flaming Bomb And R.l.b. It Is 16 Ga. And Shoots Extremely Good. Any Info On This???

I'm going to move this to the shotgun forum where you will more than likely get an answer.

Just guessing here.

But a flaming bomb could be the Ordnance Corps stamp. (Does it look like the one in the attached picture ??)

RI could be Rock Island Arsenal.

Interesting that the receiver has a bursting bomb on it? If it was lets say an Ordance Wepaon, I wonder why they utilized a 16ga? I was always under the impression that the military used 12 gauges...... Plus the vent rib on a Ithaca Military shotgun would be a first that I have heard of. It could also be a replacement barrel too unless the serial numbers match. I could be wrong on both of my assumptions.

You might try over at shotgunworld under Ithaca lovers and post the same question. Walt Snyder who has written 2 in depth books about Ithaca Gun frequents there and maybe he can help you.

They used to use "bird-guns" to teach some basics of aerial gunnery (shooting clays from the back of a moving jeep IIRC). Im not sure if they used 16 gauges or not. Would be a pretty neat story to go with the gun though.
