I rehab'd an Ithaca 49 .22 single shot for my grandson. The only possible problem is the spent shells extract, not eject. But, there is an "ejector" in the schematic.

I just watched a Youtube segment on disassembly and he stated the ejector just extracts.

If anyone has one of these little masterpieces, could you please provide some clarification.

I've had one for 40 years. Fine little rifle!

The extractor also ejects, but it is dependent in part on how you work the lever. Just the right speed will flick the empties out nicely without bending or breaking anything. Working the lever slowly will usually let you pick the brass out of the chamber or off the groove in the top of the block/bolt. Being able to selectively eject is handy once in a great while.

Keeping the chamber clean helps. Also, some .22 ammunition doesn't chamber or eject as well as other types. Stingers were too tight in the chamber for safety, so I couldn't use them in that rifle.

I'd like to refinish mine one day, probably with a Skinner Lo Pro aperture rear sight in place of the Williams 5D it has now, and a nice, simple post front.

Thanks, 308. I was beginning to think I might be the only person who owned one of these.

I watched the Youtube segment and he said it would only extract, but then why not call the ejector an extractor?? He didn't seem too trustworthy in other areas too.

I think I'll try to order new parts (if they can be found) and start out fresh. Sometimes just a little wear can mean a big difference.

I found the problem. There was a missing spring located under the ejector trip lever and the trip lever set screw.

Now I'm sooo glad I ordered a new trip lever and ejector!!
