If I had two Ithaca auto burglar 20ga with successive serial numbers what would they be worth. Mint condition with leather holsters. Very cool looking

What would they be worth?
About 10 years in Leavenworth and your life saving in fines & lawyer bills if they were not registered with the ATF in 1936.

Auto & Burglar Guns that are not currently registered are contraband, and cannot be legally possessed or registered. The penalties for illegal possession include up to a $250,000 fine and 10 years in prison.

They are classed as AOW or Any Other Weapon.

Pretty sure they were registered. They were purchased new by our police dept and are currently stored in our armory

Then you better find the BATF paperwork to prove it.

Even a PD cannot sell them if they are not registered and you can't prove it.

What, the BATF is going to arrest the entire police force?

I think if you can fire it without removing it from the holster, then yes.

Edit: There is a way to get a replacement stamp, but I have no idea how that works. I would do a little digging before calling Treasury or BATF.

All the ones I've seen can be fired w/o removing from the holster. And they're for sale just about everywhere holster are sold.

(we return you to your regularly scheduled thread in progress)

then they are aow's and require that stamp

It's not that simple. Many of the "Wallet Holsters" being sold today aren't "Wallet Holsters" per BATFE.

For Example: (First one off google)Pocket Pal

It's called a wallet holster, looks kinda like a wallet holster, but isn't.

IIRC the defining characteristic for needing an AOW stamp is weather or noth the holster makes the firearm look like something else while still being able to be fired. Which is in and of itself a scarily subjective test. The linked Pocket Pal shows enough of the weapon that BATFE has decided it looks like a gun when drawn. AOW requiring Wallet Holsters tend to completely cover the weapon.

OP- Are you just curious on value, or is the PD planing on selling their weapons? It seems like kind of a weird question about guns you don't own.

They are considering selling. Lots of off topic stuff. Anyone know what the guns are selling for like i posted in the first post

That's gonna vary a lot. There weren't very many made, and not every collector wants to deal with NFA items. Assuming they're transferable to you at all, I found some recent auctions online that priced them between $1200 and $2500 each.

This auction house valued theirs between $2500 and $3000, although it apparently sold for $9200 in spring of 2010. It'll depend a lot on who's bidding.

Make sure that the Dept. doesn't own them on a Form 10.

Wow those are some crazy price gaps. I guess I'm seeing anywhere from $700 to 10,000 each. Guys tell me that back 20 years or so ago Ithaca Gun Co. offered us 25 new 12ga shotguns for them. Man it's gonna be tough parting with them if we do get rid of them. I wish they were mine then I wouldn't have to worry about selling them. Quite a piece of history

Gaily bedight,
A gallant night
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of El Dorado.
But he grew old --
This knight so bold --
And -- o'er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like El Dorado.
And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow --
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be --
This land of El Dorado?"
"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied --
"If you seek for El Dorado."

A little off topic. But i think Foxriver was the name of the prison that the criminals on prison break escaped from.Just seemed odd that it came up in this thread.

I have no opinion on value, other than to say that there are VERY few collectors who would care about consecutive serial numbers. It's one of those corny things that some new collectors get all excited about, but it has little real world importance.

Let me know if you do come up with a price and paperwork. 10 years ago I could have bought one less than 1K, bought a Reising for $1400. AOW I believe transfere for $5.

The last one I saw go in a live auction ran over 8k, there already been mentioned the one that went for 9200. These things have grown greatly in value. I passed on one at 2k years ago and have been kicking myself ever since. Especially cause I want one badly lol.

Auto Burglars vary greatly by condition and model. IIRC, the "A" model is more rare and had a curved stock with a spur on the top, while the "B" had more produced and has a blocky stock instead. The "A"s are considered more valuable. The other thing that matters is if it has the original holster, which can significantly bump the value.
